Your 2022 Japanese Grand Prix Predictions: The Results

Did you predict Verstappen would seal his second title? Or that Latifi would finish ahead of his fellow Suzuka rookies? How many of your pre-race predictions for the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix were correct? Find out below!

1. WILL VERSTAPPEN WIN THE TITLE?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

Despite some post-race confusion over how many points would be awarded for the rain-shortened Japanese Grand Prix, Max Verstappen did everything he needed to do to win the title for the second time. Verstappen secured the title with four races remaining – becoming the fourth driver to win a title with four Grands Prix remaining in a season.

2. WHERE WILL TSUNODA FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 11TH – 15TH

CORRECT ANSWER: 11TH- 15TH

Yuki Tsunoda finished 13th on his first home Grand Prix appearance, equalling his best result in the second half of the season. Tsunoda has not scored any points since the Spanish Grand Prix in May.

3. WHO’LL SCORE MORE POINTS – McLAREN OR ALPINE?

YOUR PREDICTION: ALPINE

CORRECT ANSWER: ALPINE

While McLaren picked up only a single point with Lando Norris finishing tenth, Alpine took back fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. The team scored with both cars – Esteban Ocon recorded a season-best fourth place, while Fernando Alonso led a lap and finished seventh – just 0.011 seconds away from Sebastian Vettel in sixth!

4. WILL HAMILTON FINISH ON THE PODIUM?

YOUR PREDICTION: NO

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

After qualifying sixth for the Japanese Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton made up only one position in the race – a result of Carlos Sainz crashing out on Lap 1 – to finish fifth. This was the first time since 2013 that Hamilton did not finish in the top three at Suzuka.

5. WHICH ROOKIE WILL RECORD THE BEST RESULT?

YOUR PREDICTION: ZHOU GUANYU

CORRECT ANSWER: NICHOLAS LATIFI

A pit stop to switch to intermediate tyres at the race restart helped Nicholas Latifi secure his first points of the season. Latifi finished in ninth place, while Mick Schumacher finished 18th and Zhou Guanyu finished only 16th despite recording the fastest lap of the race.
