Piastri is the first McLaren driver to win three races in a row since Hakkinen and the first Australian to win three in a row since Jones, while Williams celebrate their first points-scoring appearance in Miami. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2025 Miami Grand Prix!
PIASTRI WINS THE 2025 MIAMI GRAND PRIX
Oscar Piastri led home a McLaren 1-2 at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, recording the sixth victory of his career. He became the 51st driver to have won as many as six Grands Prix, overtaking team-mate Lando Norris in the all-time wins list.
Piastri became the first McLaren driver to take three consecutive victories since Mika Hakkinen between the 1997 European Grand Prix and the 1998 Brazilian Grand Prix. He also became the first Australian driver to win three races in a row since Alan Jones at the 1980 Canadian Grand Prix, the 1980 United States Grand Prix and the 1981 United States Grand Prix West.
This was McLaren’s second consecutive victory at the Miami Grand Prix. They equalled Red Bull for both the most wins at the event, as well as the most consecutive wins at the event.
The 2025 Miami Grand Prix was the 34th consecutive race which Piastri completed. He equalled fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo for third on the all-time list of most consecutive finishes in Formula 1. He also equalled the sport’s sixth-longest scoring streak.
This was the first time Piastri scored a point in the Miami Grand Prix, having finished 19th and 13th on his previous two appearances.
ON THE PODIUM
Lando Norris and George Russell joined Oscar Piastri on the podium at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, making this the 20th all-Mercedes-powered top three result in Formula 1 history. They are the second engine manufacturer to reach the milestone, after Ford Cosworth.
Having recorded a 1-2 finish in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix, McLaren became the first team to score maximum points at a Formula 1 Sprint weekend. Scoring 58 points, this was the second-highest points-scoring weekend for a team in F1 history, bettered only by Williams who scored 66 points in the double points 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
McLaren became the second team to record a 1-2 finish in the Miami Grand Prix, after Red Bull in 2023.
Lando Norris recorded the 31st podium finish of his F1 career, equalling Jack Brabham for 36th in the all-time list.
Norris remains the only driver to have finished in the top four at every race so far this season. George Russell is the only other driver to have finished in the top five at every race.
Norris set the fastest lap of the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. McLaren equalled Red Bull as the team with the most Fastest Laps at the Miami Grand Prix. This was the fourth time in the first six races of the year that Norris has taken the fastest lap.
George Russell finished on the podium for the 19th time in his career and recorded Mercedes’ first-ever top three result at the Miami Grand Prix. This was his fourth podium finish of the year and his 11th consecutive top five result.
IN THE POINTS
For the first time since it joined the calendar in 2022, Max Verstappen failed to finish on the podium at the Miami Grand Prix in 2025.
Verstappen made this the first time since the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix that the polesitter has finished outside of the top two positions. This was the worst result to date for the polesitter at the Miami Grand Prix. There’s yet to be a race in Miami which the polesitter or a driver starting on the front row has won.
Verstappen scored points for a 27th consecutive race weekend, equalling Kimi Raikkonen for fourth on the list of the longest scoring streaks in Formula 1 history. He has finished in the top six at all of those 27 races.
With Alex Albon fifth and Carlos Sainz ninth, Williams scored points at the Miami Grand Prix for the first time since 2022. This was the team’s first double points-scoring appearance in Miami.
Carlos Sainz scored points for the third time this year, while Alex Albon picked up points for the fifth time in the six races so far.
Sainz maintained his 100% points-scoring record at the Miami Grand Prix. He is yet to finish in a better position than where he has started at Miami International Autodrome.
Albon equalled his best result of the season, having also finished fifth in the Australian Grand Prix.
Kimi Antonelli continued the streak of a Mercedes driver finishing sixth in every running of the Miami Grand Prix to date. Antonelli finished sixth for the fourth time in the last five races.
This was the first Miami Grand Prix in which neither Ferrari driver finished in the top five. Both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc recorded their worst results since the first two races of the season.
With seventh place, Leclerc equalled his worst Miami Grand Prix result to date. He also finished seventh in 2023.
Finishing eighth, this was the first time that Hamilton did not finish sixth in the Miami Grand Prix.
While Max Verstappen equalled Red Bull’s previous worst Miami Grand Prix result with fourth place, Yuki Tsunoda – who finished tenth – recorded the team’s worst result to date at Miami International Autodrome.
This was the first time Tsunoda finished in the same position as he started since the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix.
THE OTHER FINISHERS
Finishing 12th, Esteban Ocon lost his 100% points-scoring record at the Miami Grand Prix. This was the first race of the year in which Ocon finished in a worse position than where he started.
Pierre Gasly finished 13th in the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. With Jack Doohan failing to finish, Alpine failed to score a point in the Miami Grand Prix for the first time.
With Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finishing 15th and 16th respectively in the Miami Grand Prix, this was the first time that neither Aston Martin driver picked up a point at the track.
Alonso remains yet to score a point in 2025. He has not scored at any of the last six races. The last time he failed to score at six races in a row was at the end of the 2018 season.
15th is Alonso’s worst result to date at the Miami Grand Prix.
THE RETIREES
Jack Doohan retired on the first lap of the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, recording his second retirement of the year. He was also out on Lap 1 in Australia.
Doohan’s first lap retirement meant that Alpine lost their record of completing every Grand Prix lap at the Miami Grand Prix. Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull are now the only teams to have done so.
Ollie Bearman failed to finish a Grand Prix for the first time in his career.
Like Jack Doohan, Liam Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto also recorded their second retirements of the season at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix having recorded their first in Australia.
