Heading to a Grand Prix and need some music for your journey? Lights Out has just the thing for you… Introducing the Ultimate Formula One Playlist!
We’ve compiled some of the music most synonymous with motorsport from The Chain to Just Drive and with everything in between. Alongside Channel 4 and Sky’s current theme tunes, the playlist also features songs from Codemasters’ Formula One games, and from the Sony games before that including Muse’s Butterflies and Hurricanes (F1 2005), The Infadels’ Jagger 67 (F1 2006) and The Editors’ Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors, from Codemasters’ epic F1 2010 trailer:
Add to this a smorgasbord of songs from end of season montages – My Favourite Game (from ITV’s 1997 closing), Gotta Work (from ITV’s 2007 montage), You’ve Got The Love (from the BBC’s 2009 closer), Alive (from Sky’s 2013 season ending monatge) and Coming Home (from the BBC’s final F1 end of season montage) – and you’re all set with the perfect musical motorsport companion.
There’s not just songs from end of season montages, though, as we’ve handpicked some of the best music from F1 VTs over the years, including Ashes by Embrace, used on a Brawn GP montage in 2009, Charlie Brown by Coldplay, used by the BBC at the end of the 2012 British Grand Prix and I Need by Maverick Sabre, used by Sky Sports F1 at the end of the controversial 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix:
We’ve also added songs that are perfect for on the road when heading to an F1 event. The Who’s Baba O’Riley, Oasis’ Champagne Supernova, Take That’s Greatest Day and The Beatles’ Here Comes The Sun are just a few of these additions.
From the understated (Kid Rock’s Born Free, The Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want, Lorde’s Everybody Wants To Rule the World) to the epic (M83’s Outro, Elbow’s One Day Like This, Elias’ Revolution) there’s something for everyone. Take a look at the playlist in full below!
