2023 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

For only the second time in his Formula 1 career, Lando Norris was eliminated in Q1 at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. This was his first Q1 exit since the 2019 German Grand Prix. Norris qualified in 19th place – the worst qualifying position of his career. It was the first time he was out-qualified by his team-mate since the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix. This is only the fifth time in his career that Norris has failed to reach Q3 at two consecutive races.

Norris finished 17th for the second race in a row. This is the first time in his career that Norris has failed to score at both of the first two races of the season, as well as the first time he failed to score at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

2023 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

For the first time in his career, Lando Norris failed to reach Q3 for a third consecutive race. Norris lost his 100% Q3 appearance rate at the Australian Grand Prix as a result but maintains his record of out-qualifying his team-mate on every appearance at the Australian Grand Prix.

Norris went on to finish in sixth place, recording his first points finish since the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he also finished sixth.

2023 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Piastri has reached that number in five races, while Norris has taken 87 races to do so. Norris finished 17th in the Grand Prix for the third time in the five races so far in the 2023 season.

2023 MONACO GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris made his 88th start with McLaren at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, overtaking Kimi Raikkonen as the driver to have made the eighth most starts with the team. It’s only the third time that a country has scored at 100 races in a row.

2023 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris impressed in qualifying at the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix, setting the third fastest time. This was his first top three qualification since the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the fourth top three qualification of Norris’ career. It was the first time Norris qualified in the top seven at the Spanish Grand Prix and the first time since 2019 that he out-qualified his team-mate at the event.

Despite his strong qualifying showing, Norris finished 17th for the fourth time in the first seven races of the 2023 season. This was the first time Norris failed to score at the Spanish Grand Prix since his maiden season in 2019.

2023 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris recorded his best Montreal qualifying result to date at the Canadian Grand Prix with seventh place. His previous best result was eighth, in 2019. 2023 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris maintained his record of finishing in the top seven on every appearance in Austria during his Formula 1 career. He finished fourth in the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix and equalled David Coulthard as the driver to have made the most appearances at the Spielberg circuit without failing to score.

Fourth place is McLaren’s best result of the 2023 season to date and the team’s best result since Norris finished fourth in the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix.

Norris was voted Driver Of The Day for the sixth time in his career. He last won the accolade at the 2021 Russian Grand Prix.

2023 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris joined Max Verstappen on the front row of the grid at the 2023 British Grand Prix. This was the third time that Norris started on the front row in his Formula 1 career, after the 2021 Austrian and Russian Grands Prix. Norris maintained his record of having never been out-qualified by his team-mate at Silverstone and recorded McLaren’s first front row qualification at Silverstone since Heikki Kovalainen took pole at the 2008 British Grand Prix.

With second place in the race, Norris recorded his first podium finish since the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and equalled his career-best result. He also finished as runner-up at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. Norris became the first British driver other than Lewis Hamilton to finish on the podium at their home race since David Coulthard at the 2000 British Grand Prix.

Leading the first four laps of the race, Norris led a Formula 1 race for the first time since the 2021 Russian Grand Prix. In addition to the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, the 2023 British Grand Prix was the third race at which Norris led a lap.

2023 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris’ third place in qualifying for the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix makes this the first time in his Formula 1 career that he qualified in the top four at three consecutive races. Another career first followed on Sunday as Norris finished on the podium for a second consecutive weekend. This was Norris’ first top six finish at the Hungaroring and the first time that he has finished a race at the track in a better position than where he started. With second place, Norris recorded McLaren’s first podium finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix since Lewis Hamilton won with the team in 2012.

2023 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

2023 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris made his 95th start with McLaren at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, overtaking Fernando Alonso as the driver to have made the seventh most starts with the team. Norris qualified on the front row for the second time this year. He equalled his best qualifying result of the season, having also set the second fastest time at the 2023 British Grand Prix. Finishing the race eighth, Norris maintained his 100% points-scoring rate at the Italian Grand Prix. On his fifth appearance, he extended his record as the driver to have made the most appearances at Monza without failing to score. Norris scored points for the sixth consecutive race in 2023, with this being the first time he finished outside of the top seven since the Canadian Grand Prix.

2023 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris made his 97th start with McLaren at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix, overtaking Ayrton Senna as the driver to have made the sixth most starts with the team. Qualifying fourth, Norris reached Q3 for the tenth consecutive race. Norris’ fourth place marked McLaren’s best qualifying result at the Singapore Grand Prix since Lewis Hamilton took pole position in 2012.

In the race, Norris recorded his third podium finish of the year with second place. It put him one top three finish away from equalling his highest number of podiums in a single season. All three podium appearances so far this year have been second place finishes. Norris recorded McLaren’s best Singapore Grand Prix result since Jenson Button finished as runner-up in 2012.

He became the 15th different driver to have finished on the podium at the event, 15 years since it first joined the calendar. Norris has gained two positions from where he started on all three of his Singapore Grand Prix appearances.

2023 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris’ third place in qualifying for the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix marked the first time he qualified inside the top seven at Suzuka. Norris finished on the podium for the fourth time in 2023, equalling his personal best for most podium finishes in a single season. The points scored by Norris at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix saw him overtake Nico Hulkenberg as the driver to have scored the most points without ever winning a Grand Prix. Norris’ second place saw Britain become the nation with the most podium finishes at Suzuka. The 22nd top three finish for the nation saw them overtake Germany for the most podiums at the track.

2023 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris qualified tenth for the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, which was his worst qualifying result since the Monaco Grand Prix, which is where his current streak of 12 consecutive Q3 appearances began.

On Sunday, Norris became the first McLaren driver to finish on the podium at three consecutive races since Lewis Hamilton at the first three races of the 2012 season. Norris recorded the first podium finish from 10th on the grid since Max Verstappen won the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix having started in the same position.

2023 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris made his 100th start at the 2023 United States Grand Prix and made this the 23rd time that a driver has started a century of races with a single team. Norris recorded his third front row qualification of the season. His second place marked the first time McLaren qualified on the front row for the United States Grand Prix since Lewis Hamilton did so with the team at the inaugural race at Circuit of The Americas in 2012. It was the first time Norris has qualified in a position other than eighth at Circuit of The Americas.

As a result of Hamilton’s disqualification, Norris was promoted from third to second in the final order. Norris is now one 2nd or 3rd place finish away from equalling Nick Heidfeld as the driver to have taken the most Formula 1 podium finishes without winning a Grand Prix.

Norris became the first McLaren driver to record four consecutive podium finishes since Jenson Button did so between the 2011 Indian Grand Prix and the 2012 Australian Grand Prix. Norris recorded McLaren’s first podium finish at COTA since Hamilton won the inaugural race with the team in 2012.

Norris maintained his 100% points scoring record at COTA and is now one of three drivers with a 100% points rate at the track, along with Bruno Senna and Logan Sargeant.

2023 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris recorded the fourth Q1 elimination of his Formula 1 career and his third of the 2023 season to date. He lost his 100% Q3 appearance rate at the Mexico City Grand Prix as a result of his Q1 exit. This was McLaren’s first Q1 exit in Mexico since 2018.

Finishing fifth in the race, Norris scored points for the 11th consecutive race. Norris gained 12 positions from where he started, which is the most places he has made up in a race during his Formula 1 career. Norris became the first driver to score points from 17th on the grid in Mexico since Gabriele Tarquini finished sixth in the 1989 Mexican Grand Prix. Norris recorded the best ever result from this position at the track.

2023 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris recorded his fifth podium finish in six races at the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. With second place, Norris equalled Nick Heidfeld as the driver to have recorded the most podium finishes without ever winning a Grand Prix. This was Norris’ 13th podium finish. Only Jean Alesi, Mika Hakkinen and Eddie Irvine made more podium appearances than Norris before taking their first win.

Norris’ second place marked the first time he has finished in the top seven at Interlagos. He was voted Driver Of The Day for the third consecutive race. He is only the fourth driver, after Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc to win the vote at three successive races.

Norris’ podium finish made this the fourth consecutive F1 race in which the driver starting sixth has finished in the top three: the position’s longest streak of podium results since the 2009 European, Belgian, Italian and Singapore Grands Prix.

Norris recorded McLaren’s best result at Interlagos since Jenson Button won the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix with the team. It was McLaren’s first podium finish here since 2019, when Carlos Sainz finished in third place. Norris’ podium saw Britain equal Germany as the nation with the most podium finishes at Interlagos.

2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris recorded the fifth Q1 elimination of his career at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, after the 2019 German Grand Prix, the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the 2023 Miami Grand Prix and the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix.

Norris crashed out on the third lap of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, ending a run of 21 consecutive Grand Prix finishes. Norris’ DNF meant that Max Verstappen became the only driver to have completed every race in the 2023 season.

2023 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris maintained his 100% Q3 appearance rate at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but was out-qualified by a team-mate at Yas Marina Circuit for the first time. Norris also maintained his 100% finishing record at the track, becoming only the second driver – after Felipe Massa – to score points on all of his first five Abu Dhabi Grand Prix appearances. Fifth place equalled Norris’ best result to date at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He also finished fifth in 2020.
