
Here’s a list of every time that the red flag has been shown during a session in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
The first red flag of the 2025 Formula 1 season was caused by gravel on track around 20 minutes into Free Practice 1. The gravel was located at the exit of Turn 6, where multiple drivers – including Max Verstappen and Jack Doohan – had run wide.
AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
There were two red flags in the first practice session of the year. The second was caused by Ollie Bearman, who had a hefty crash at Turn 10 around 40 minutes into the session. He spun out following a trip through the gravel.
AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 3
Having caused a red flag and missed out on running in Free Practice 2, Ollie Bearman brought out the red flags again just moments into Free Practice 3. The Haas driver spun out into the gravel at Turn 11 and faced another session on the sidelines.
CHINESE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
Jack Doohan brought out the first red flag of the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, when a mechanical issue caused him to stop between Turns 10 and 11 in the final 15 minutes of the session.
JAPANESE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Jack Doohan – who missed Free Practice 1 at Suzuka as a result of handing his car over to Alpine reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa – crashed early on in Free Practice 2 at the Japanese Grand Prix. He hit the barriers heavily at Turn 1, taking two wheels off the car in the process. Barrier repairs after the crash meant that the session was under a red flag for 20 minutes.
JAPANESE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Just minutes after the 20 minute delay, Fernando Alonso brought out the red flags once again when he became stuck in the gravel between Turns 8 and 9.
JAPANESE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
There was a third red flag in Free Practice 2 due to a small fire in the grass trackside. The drivers lost 38 minutes of running time throughout the session as a result of the red flags.
JAPANESE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Just moments before the chequered flag fell, the red flag was shown for the fourth time in Free Practice 2 at the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix as a result of another trackside grass fire.
JAPANESE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 3
There were more fires and more red flags on Saturday morning at Suzuka. The first red flag in Free Practice 3 came as a result of a grass fire at Turn 12.
JAPANESE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 3
A second red flag of the morning followed towards the end of the session, with a grass fire near 130R effectively ending Free Practice 3 early.
JAPANESE GRAND PRIX, Q2
The first red flag during a qualifying session in 2025 came in Q2 at the Japanese Grand Prix. It was for the same reason as the previous four red flags of the Suzuka race weekend, with the grass setting alight once again.
BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX, Q2
Esteban Ocon crashed out at Turn 3 in the opening minutes of Q2 at the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix, bringing out the red flags and causing an eight-minute delay.
SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
With under ten minutes remaining in the second practice session at the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda crashed and brought out the red flags. After clipping the inside wall, the Red Bull driver broke his suspension and collided with the barrier at the final turn. The session resumed with one minute left on the clock, leaving drivers only enough time to complete practice starts.
SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX, Q3
Lando Norris became the first driver to crash out in Q3 in 2025, when he made a mistake at Turn 4 and hit the barriers. The session resumed after a nine minute delay.
MIAMI GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
Towards the end of the only practice session of the 2025 Miami Grand Prix weekend, Ollie Bearman spun and tapped the wall. Coming to a halt on track, the red flag was shown. The session was not resumed.
MIAMI GRAND PRIX, SPRINT
Due to poor weather conditions at the start of the Sprint – which had already seen Charles Leclerc crash on his way to the grid – the starting procedure was delayed and red-flagged after two formation laps behind the Safety Car.
EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
The red flag was shown in the closing minutes of Free Practice 1 at the 2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix as a result of Gabriel Bortoleto hitting the wall at Turn 18.
EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Isack Hadjar beached his Racing Bull at Tamburello as the midway point of Free Practice 2 approached. The red flag was shown while the car was moved to safety.
EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX, Q1
A huge crash for Yuki Tsunoda, in which his car flipped over and hit the barriers, saw the opening part of qualifying red-flagged. There was a 14 minute red flag period while the incident was dealt with.
EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX, Q1
A second lengthy red flag period occurred in Q1 at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix when Franco Colapinto – on his Alpine debut – crashed out. There was a delay of around 20 minutes while the car was cleared away and barriers repaired.
MONAC0 GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
Ten minutes into the opening practice session of the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Lance Stroll collided with the rear of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari at the hairpin. The red flag was shown due to debris on track.
MONACO GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Less than ten minutes into Free Practice 2, Isack Hadjar hit the barriers at the Nouvelle Chicane. Hadjar was able to return to the pit lane despite the red flag being shown.
MONAC0 GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Oscar Piastri hit the battier Ste Devote but was able to continue by reversing his McLaren after the red flag had been shown.
MONAC0 GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 3
In final practice for the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton collided with the barriers at the top of the hill and came to a stop at Casino Square.
MONAC0 GRAND PRIX, Q1
The red flag was shown after the chequered flag in Q1 when Kimi Antonelli crashed his Mercedes at the chicane.
MONAC0 GRAND PRIX, Q2
A disastrous qualifying session for Mercedes saw George Russell come to a stop in the tunnel with mechanical issues early on in Q2. The red flag was shown while his car was cleared away.
CANADIAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
Charles Leclerc collided with the wall at the Turn 8 chicane in Free Practice 1 for the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix. The incident brought out the red flags and saw Leclerc miss all of the remaining Friday running.
CANADIAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 3
Oscar Piastri and Nico Hulkenberg had scrapes with the Wall of Champions in Free Practice 3 at the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix. Debris from their misdemeanours saw the red flag brought out to clear up the track.
CANADIAN GRAND PRIX, Q1
In the first part of qualifying for the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix, the engine cover of Alex Albon’s Williams came loose and flew off on the back straight. The debris scattered across the track meant that the red flag had to be shown.
AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX, Q2
Not for the first time in 2025, a small grass fire resulted in a red flag during Q2 for the Austrian Grand Prix. The fire occurred after Lewis Hamilton ran wide at the final corner of the Red Bull Ring. The grass was doused and the issue did not repeat for the rest of the weekend.
BRITISH GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 3
Debris on track from Ollie Bearman’s Haas meant that Free Practice 3 at the British Grand Prix had to be halted while the bodywork was recovered.
BRITISH GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 3
As the final practice session at the 2025 British Grand Prix drew to a close, Gabriel Bortoleto lost control of his Sauber at the Maggotts and Becketts complex and damaged his suspension when bouncing over the grass, resulting in the second red flag period of the session.
BRITISH GRAND PRIX, Q1
Franco Colapinto hit the wall and subsequently brought out the red flags following a mistake at the final corner in Q1 at the 2025 British Grand Prix. Colapinto was able to carry on but then came to a stop in the first sector, meaning he could qualify no higher than 20th on the grid.
BELGIAN GRAND PRIX, FORMATION LAP
The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix was red-flagged on the Safety Car-led formation lap due to the weather conditions and a lack of visibility. The race eventually began 80 minutes later.
DUTCH GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
Kimi Antonelli’s opening practice session at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix came to a very early end as he understeered and locked-up at Turn 9, sliding into the gravel trap just ten minutes into the session.
DUTCH GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Lance Stroll suffered a hefty crash ten minutes into Free Practice 2 for the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix. Misjudging his braking point, Stroll collided with the wall at Turn 3.
DUTCH GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
There was another red flag later on in Free Practice 2 at Zandvoort, when Alex Albon found himself beached in the gravel after hitting the wall with 20 minutes remaining in the session.
ITALIAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
Isack Hadjar had a wide moment at the Ascari chicane in opening practice for the 2025 Italian Grand Prix. The gravel thrown up onto the circuit was the cause of the first red flag of the weekend.
ITALIAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
It was a practice session to forget for Kimi Antonelli on home soil at the 2025 Italian Grand Prix. Just ten minutes into Free Practice 2, he beached his Mercedes in the gravel after carrying too much speed through the Lesmo corners.
AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
The first of seven red flags over the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend came in Free Practice 1. The stoppage was extensive, due to Carlos Sainz having pulled up a strip of rubber under the kerbs at the final corner.
AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX, Q1
Alex Albon was responsible for the first of an eventual six red flags in qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Williams driver clipped the wall at Turn 1, bringing a premature end to his session.
AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX, Q1
Nico Hulkenberg lost part of his front wing with six minutes remaining in Q1. He was able to get going again, after the session had been red-flagged.
AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX, Q1
The yellow flags came out just 20 seconds before the end of Q1 and the red flags were shown after the chequered flag when Pierre Gasly found himself stuck down an escape road. While that was happening, at the same corner, Alpine team-mate Franco Colapinto crashed at the same corner.
AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX, Q2
Ollie Bearman hit the wall and come to a stop in the opening stages of Q2, bringing out the fourth red flag of the qualifying hour.
AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX, Q3
With seven minutes remaining in Q3, Charles Leclerc crashed out of the session at Turn 15, locking up and heading into the barriers.
AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX, Q3
Championship leader Oscar Piastri was the final driver to crash in qualifying in Baku, doing so at Turn 3 with four minutes remaining in Q3. With this being the sixth red flag of qualifying, the session set a new record for the most red flags in qualifying. It overtook the former record of five, seen at the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
The first of three red flags over the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix came as a result of eventual race winner George Russell making contact with the barrier. Colliding at relatively high speed, the Mercedes lost its front wing in the collision. Russell was able to get moving again, but the red flag was shown for the deposited front wing to be removed from the circuit.
SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Later in Free Practice 2, Liam Lawson crashed at the final corner. His car came to a stop at the pit entry, which necessitated a temporary closing of the pit lane despite the red flag having been put out.
SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 3
Lawson suffered another crash 20 minutes into Free Practice 3. He hit the barrier at the exit of Turn 7 and his car was only just repaired in time for qualifying.
UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 1
Lance Stroll brought out the red flags in the only practice session of the 2025 United States Grand Prix weekend. Running wide at the penultimate turn, the Aston Martin driver deposited debris and the session was stopped as it was cleared away.
UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX, Q1
A crash for Isack Hadjar in Sector 1 brought a stop to proceedings just minutes into Q1 at the 2025 United States Grand Prix. A misjudgement saw the Racing Bulls driver crash at Turn 6, before he set a competitive lap time.
SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX, SPRINT
Oscar Piastri, Nico Hulkenberg and Franco Colapinto all crashed out through the Senna esses early on in the Sprint at the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. While a Safety Car was initially called, the Sprint was soon red-flagged.
LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Concerns over a loose drain cover with just over 20 minutes to go in Free Practice 2 at the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix brought about a red flag. The loose cover was in the section between Turns 16 and 17. The session resumed with just over five minutes to go.
LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX, FREE PRACTICE 2
Just minutes after resuming, the session was red-flagged again for the same reason. Stewards said “track maintenance” related to concerns over the loose drain covers brought an early end to the second practice session.
QATAR GRAND PRIX, Q3
There was a single red flag over the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix weekend. It occurred halfway through the Q3 session, when a sticker from the Williams garage floor became stuck to one of Carlos Sainz’s tyres. It detached itself from the tyre when Sainz was out on track, resulting in a red flag and a €5,000 fine for the team.
