RACE BY RACE: DANIEL RICCIARDO‘S 2023 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2023 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Daniel Ricciardo returned to Formula 1 with AlphaTauri at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, replacing Nyck de Vries for the remainder of the 2023 season. Ricciardo made his first race appearance since the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – and his first with the Red Bull junior team since the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix. The latter was also the last time that two Australian drivers were on the grid and the last time that car numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 all started a Grand Prix.

On his comeback, Ricciardo became the first AlphaTauri driver to reach Q2 since the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix and out-qualified his team-mate for the first time since the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix. In the Grand Prix, Ricciardo out-raced his team-mate to finish 13th. That’s two positions further up than where he finished with McLaren at the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix.

2023 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

After having his top ten lap time deleted for exceeding track limits, Daniel Ricciardo was out in Q1 at the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix. This marked his first Q1 exit since the 2022 United States Grand Prix and his first Q1 elimination at the Belgian Grand Prix since 2013; his last appearance here with the Red Bull junior team. This was the first time Ricciardo qualified on the back row since qualifying last at the 2017 British Grand Prix and his first back row qualification at the Belgian Grand Prix since qualifying 23rd with HRT in 2011.

Ricciardo gained three positions from where he started to finish 16th in the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix. It was the first time since 2017 that he finished the Belgian Grand Prix in a better position than where he started.

2023 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Daniel Ricciardo withdrew from the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix weekend after breaking bones in his hand following a crash in Free Practice 2. He was replaced by Liam Lawson.

2023 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Daniel Ricciardo returned to action at the 2023 United States Grand Prix. He qualified 15th and was out-qualified by a team-mate at the United States Grand Prix for only the third time since his first appearance at the event in 2012.

2023 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

For the first time since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo qualified in the top four at the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix. It was his first top four qualification in Mexico since he took pole position in 2018.

This was the best qualifying result for the AlphaTauri team since Pierre Gasly qualified fourth at the 2021 Qatar Grand Prix. The 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix was only the eighth time that a driver for the Red Bull junior team started from the front two rows of the grid.

Ricciardo recorded his first points of the 2023 season with seventh place in the race. The 2022 Mexico City Grand Prix was the last time Ricciardo finished in the top seven.

2023 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

At the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo recorded his first Q1 exit at Interlagos since his first appearance at the track for the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix. With 13th place in the race, Ricciardo made this his third consecutive point-less visit to Interlagos. Unlike the last two years, the Australian did at least make it to the chequered flag.

2023 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX

Daniel Ricciardo out-qualified his team-mate for the third time since his return to Formula 1. He finished 14th in the race – his first 14th place finish since the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix.

2023 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Daniel Ricciardo qualified 15th for the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, missing out on Q3 at Yas Marina Circuit for only the fourth time in his 13 appearances at the event.
