2025 Hungarian Grand Prix: Race Statistics, Facts and Trivia

Norris records McLaren’s 200th win, McLaren equal their longest-ever 1-2 streak and Bortoleto records Sauber’s first top six result in Hungary since 2007. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix!

NORRIS WINS THE 2025 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris took victory in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, securing the ninth win of his Formula 1 career. He equalled Mark Webber for 36th place on the all-time list of most F1 victories.

Norris recorded McLaren’s 200th victory, making them the second constructor – after Ferrari – to record as many as 200 Grand Prix wins. Ferrari reached the milestone at the 2007 Chinese Grand Prix.

This was Norris’ 38th podium finish, moving ahead of Riccardo Patrese to 26th on the all-time list. 2025 is the third consecutive season in which Norris has finished on the Hungarian Grand Prix podium. He finished as runner-up in both 2023 and 2024.

Norris’ podium marked the 200th podium finish for car number 4 in Formula 1 history. It is the fifth car number to make 200 podium appearances.

Norris won the race by 0.698 seconds – the fourth smallest win margin at the Hungarian Grand Prix and the seventh time that a Hungaroring race has been won by under a second. This was the third race of the season to be won by under a second, after the Australian and Canadian Grands Prix.

McLAREN’S FOURTH CONSECUTIVE 1-2 RESULT

With Oscar Piastri finishing as runner-up in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, McLaren recorded their fourth consecutive 1-2 finish. That equalled the team’s longest-ever 1-2 streak, recorded by Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna between the 1988 German and Belgian Grands Prix.

This is the 11th time that a team has recorded a streak of as many as four consecutive 1-2 results. It’s the first time any team has had such a long run of 1-2 finishes since Mercedes at the start of the 2019 season.

This was the second year in a row that McLaren recorded a 1-2 finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

McLaren’s total of podium finishes at the Hungarian Grand Prix now stands at 27. As a result, they overtake Ferrari at the top of the list of most podium results at the Hungaroring.

Piastri recorded the 22nd podium finish of his Formula 1 career. It was his 12th podium result in the last 13 races.

Piastri remains in a group of drivers who’ve scored points on every appearance at the Hungaroring, of which Antonio Pizzonia and Johnny Dumfries were the only other members until Gabriel Bortoleto, Liam Lawson and Kimi Antonelli joined the club in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix.

Oscar Piastri leads the Drivers’ Championship by nine points following the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. He overtakes Jack Brabham as the Australian driver to have led the standings after the most consecutive races. This was Piastri’s tenth race at the top of the standings, while Brabham led after all nine races in the 1959 season.

RUSSELL ON THE PODIUM

For the second year in a row, the two McLaren drivers were joined on the Hungarian Grand Prix podium by a Mercedes driver.

Finishing in third place in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, George Russell recorded his sixth podium finish of the season. This was the 21st podium finish of his career and his first since his Canadian Grand Prix victory.

Russell equalled his best Hungarian Grand Prix result, having last finished third in 2022.

IN THE POINTS

Having started the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix from pole position, Charles Leclerc finished fourth. It means that he has converted only one of his last 16 pole positions into a victory. 2020 remains the last time that the Hungaroring polesitter went on to win the race.

This was Leclerc’s sixth top five result in the last seven races.

Leclerc equalled his best Hungarian Grand Prix result, having previously finished fourth here in both 2019 and 2024.

Fernando Alonso recorded his best result of the season to date with fifth place in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. This was his first top five result since the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Recording his 17th top ten finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Alonso equalled Lewis Hamilton as the driver with the most top ten results at the Hungaroring. Alonso also became the first driver to cross the finish line 19 times at the track.

Gabriel Bortoleto recorded the best result of his F1 career to date, finishing sixth in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. This was the first top six result for a Sauber driver in Hungary since both Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld finished in the top five in the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix.

This was Bortoleto’s third points-scoring appearance in the last four Grands Prix.

Bortoleto was voted Driver Of The Day for the second time in the last four races, winning with just 0.5% more of the vote than Fernando Alonso. It’s the fifth smallest winning margin in the history of the award.

This was the first top six result for a Brazilian driver since Felipe Massa finished sixth in the 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix.

With seventh place, Lance Stroll finished in the top seven for the second time in the last three races.

This was Stroll’s 179th Grand Prix start without taking a win, equalling Romain Grosjean for fifth place on the list of most starts without a victory.

Stroll scored points for the fourth time in his nine Hungarian Grand Prix appearances.

Liam Lawson finished in eighth place for a second consecutive race.

In his 200th Grand Prix start with Red Bull, Max Verstappen finished in ninth place. This was Verstappen’s fourth consecutive race without a podium finish – his longest such run since the start of the 2018 season.

With tenth place in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli scored a point for the first time since his maiden podium result at the Canadian Grand Prix. This was only the second time he scored a point in the last eight races.

THE OTHER FINISHERS

Lewis Hamilton finished 12th in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, crossing the line in a position outside of the points for the first time since the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix, where he also finished 12th.

Of races he has finished at the Hungaroring, the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix was the first time Hamilton finished outside of the top six. 2010, when he retired, is the only other race at the track in which he failed to score. This was his first finish outside of the top four in Hungary since 2015.

For the fourth year in a row, Williams left the Hungarian Grand Prix having failed to pick up a point in the race. Carlos Sainz finished 14th, while Alex Albon finished 15th.

Sainz’s 14th place finish marked the first time he failed to score a point at the Hungarian Grand Prix since retiring on his first appearance at the Hungaroring in 2015.

With Esteban Ocon finishing 16th and Ollie Bearman failing to finish, this was Haas’ worst-ever combined result at the Hungarian Grand Prix. In their ten appearances at the track, this is the first time that neither of the team’s cars finished in the top 14.

Finishing 17th in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda finished outside of the points for a seventh consecutive Grand Prix.

Franco Colapinto finished 18th in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, while Pierre Gasly came home 19th. This was the third year in a row that neither Alpine driver finished in the top 17 at the Hungaroring.

This was the first time Gasly finished a race in a position as low as 19th. During his career, he has now recorded at least one finish in every position between 1st and 19th.

THE RETIREES

Ollie Bearman was the only driver to retire from the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. Ending a streak of four consecutive 11th place finishes, Bearman recorded his second retirement of the season – Haas’ first at the Hungarian Grand Prix since 2021.
