2025 British Grand Prix: Race Statistics, Facts and Trivia

Norris becomes Silverstone’s 13th British winner, Hulkenberg records a maiden podium finish at last and Hamilton finishes off the British Grand Prix podium for the first time since 2013. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2025 British Grand Prix!

NORRIS WINS THE 2025 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris took victory in the 2025 British Grand Prix, winning his home race for the first time in his career and taking his eighth Grand Prix win. He is the 41st driver to record as many as eight wins in Formula 1, equalling the career tallies of Jacky Ickx, Denny Hulme, Daniel Ricciardo and Charles Leclerc. This was Norris’ fourth win of the season.

This was McLaren’s first British Grand Prix win since Lewis Hamilton took victory in 2008.

Norris recorded the 25th victory for a British driver at Silverstone in its history on the Formula 1 calendar. He is the 13th different British driver to win at the track and the 16th British driver to win the British Grand Prix.

Norris recorded consecutive wins for the second time in his career, having last done so at the 2024 Abu Dhabi and 2025 Australian Grands Prix.

This was the 15th victory for Mercedes power at Silverstone, seeing Mercedes equal Ferrari as the most successful engine manufacturer at the track.

Norris recorded his 36th podium finish with McLaren, equalling Kimi Raikkonen for sixth on the list of most top three results with the team.

McLaren became the fourth different team to win at Silverstone in the last four races at the track. It equals the record for the most consecutive different winning teams at the track. There have been four different teams winning four successive races here twice previously – between 1967 & 1973 and between 2006 & 2009.

This was Norris’ third consecutive podium finish at the British Grand Prix. Each time, he finished on a different step of the rostrum.

A McLAREN 1-2

Oscar Piastri completed a McLaren 1-2 at the 2025 British Grand Prix. This was the team’s 54th 1-2 finish in total and their first since 2000, when David Coulthard led home Mika Hakkinen – which remains the team’s only other 1-2 result at Silverstone.

2025 is the first season in which McLaren have recorded as many as five 1-2 results since 1998.

Piastri became the 56th driver to record as many as 20 podium finishes in Formula 1. This was his first podium result at Silverstone, having finished fourth on his previous two appearances at the track.

This was Piastri’s 11th consecutive top four finish.

Piastri continues to lead the Drivers’ Championship after the 2025 British Grand Prix, making him the first Australian driver to lead the standings after as many as eight consecutive races since Jack Brabham led after all nine races in the 1959 season.

A PODIUM AT LAST FOR NICO HULKENBERG

On his 239th race start, Nico Hulkenberg finally brought home his first podium finish at the 2025 British Grand Prix. He set a new record for the most races before a first podium result, usurping Carlos Sainz from the top spot. Sainz had made 138 fewer starts than Hulkenberg had when he finished in the top three for the first time.

Hulkenberg’s podium finish means that Adrian Sutil takes back the record for most starts without finishing in the top three. Sutil made 128 starts in his career. Of current drivers, Yuki Tsunoda is closest to taking the unwanted record, but will need to make 30 more starts without a top three result to do so.

Hulkenberg scored points for a fourth consecutive race – his longest points streak since 2019. This was Hulkenberg’s first top five result at Silverstone.

This was the Sauber team’s first podium finish since Kamui Kobayashi finished third at the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix. It also marked the first time that the team scored points at Silverstone since 2019, when Kimi Raikkonen finished eighth.

Hulkenberg gained no fewer than 16 positions on his way to his first podium result. He recorded the best-ever result for a driver starting 19th on the grid at Silverstone – the previous best being fifth place for Daniel Ricciardo in the 2017 British Grand Prix.

This was the first podium result to be recorded by a driver starting outside of the top seven on the grid in 2025. The last time a driver did so, they also finished 19th. Charles Leclerc did so at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

This was the first podium finish for a German driver since Sebastian Vettel recorded the last top three result of his career at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. It was the first podium finish for the driver of car number 27 since Jean Alesi finished on the podium at the 1995 European Grand Prix.

IN THE POINTS

Finishing fourth in the 2025 British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton failed to finish on the podium at Silverstone for the first time since 2013. Hamilton had finished on the podium in all of the last 12 successive Silverstone races. It ended the longest streak of consecutive podiums at a single track for any driver in F1 history.

Hamilton equalled his best result of the season to date with fourth place for the second weekend in a row. He also finished fourth in the Emilia Romagna and Austrian Grands Prix.

Hamilton recorded his 35th fourth place finish in Formula 1, overtaking Sebastian Vettel at the top of the list of most fourth place results.

With sixth place in the 2025 British Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly recorded Alpine’s best result of the season to date. This was Gasly’s third points finish of the season and his first top six result since finishing fifth in the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix.

Following Gasly’s sixth place finish, Alpine remain bottom of the Constructors’ Championship standings with 19 points. It is already guaranteed to be the highest points tally for a team who finished last in the end of year standings in the championship’s history.

This was the first time Gasly scored a point at the British Grand Prix since 2020. He ended a streak of three consecutive non-finishes at Silverstone.

Aston Martin were the only team other than McLaren to see both cars score points at the 2025 British Grand Prix. This was the first time in 2025 that both Aston Martin drivers finished in the top ten in the same race.

Lance Stroll became the first driver to record a top seven result from seventh on the grid at the British Grand Prix since Giancarlo Fisichella finished seventh in 2002. Stroll gained ten places over the course of the race – the most he has gained in a Grand Prix so far this year.

This was Stroll’s first top eight finish since the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and his first points finish since the Chinese Grand Prix.

Stroll has scored points five times in his last seven Silverstone outings.

Both crossing the finish line, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso became the first drivers to complete 20 Grands Prix at Silverstone.

Alonso scored points for the fourth race in a row, having not scored in any of the eight races before that. This was Alonso’s sixth consecutive points-scoring appearance at the British Grand Prix.

With eighth place, Alex Albon ended a run of three consecutive retirements and returned to the points for the first time since the Monaco Grand Prix.

This was Albon’s fifth points-scoring appearance in his seven appearances to date at Silverstone.

With George Russell finishing tenth and Kimi Antonelli failing to finish, this was the first British Grand Prix since 2012 in which neither Mercedes driver finished on the podium. This was Mercedes’ lowest points tally at the British Grand Prix since their return to Formula 1 in 2010.

This was Russell’s second-worst result of the season to date, having finished 11th in the Monaco Grand Prix.

This was only the second time in eight appearances at Silverstone that Russell has scored a point. The only other time he has done so is with a fifth place finish in 2023.

Ollie Bearman finished 11th for the third consecutive race.

THE RETIREES

Five drivers failed to finish the 2025 British Grand Prix.

Kimi Antonelli recorded his fourth retirement in the last six races as a result of collision damage in an incident with Isack Hadjar.

Hadjar recorded the first DNF of his career, having recorded a DNS at the Australian Grand Prix.

The Red Bull junior team recorded their first double DNF since the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix – as well as their first double non-finish since the 2025 Australian Grand Prix. It was the team’s first double DNF at Silverstone since 2015.

Liam Lawson recorded a first lap retirement for the first time in a Grand Prix, though he was eliminated on the opening lap of the Sprint at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix.

Antonelli and Lawson became the first drivers to record as many as four retirements in the 2025 season.

A gearbox issue meant that Franco Colapinto was unable to start the race. He recorded the first DNS of his career and failed to finish for the first time since his stint at Williams in 2024.

Gabriel Bortoleto recorded the third retirement of his career, failing to finish for the first time since the Miami Grand Prix.
