2025 Austrian Grand Prix: Race Statistics, Facts and Trivia

Norris leads home McLaren’s first 1-2 in Austria since 2000, Red Bull’s 77-race scoring streak comes to an end and Bortoleto scores the first points of his career. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix!

NORRIS WINS THE 2025 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris took victory in the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, becoming the 44th driver to have won as many as seven Grands Prix, equalling his team-mate’s tally of victories. This was Norris’ third win of the season.

Norris made this the 100th race weekend at which McLaren both took pole position and won the race.

Norris became the 35th driver to record as many as 35 podium finishes in Formula 1, equalling the career tallies of Juan Manuel Fangio and Emerson Fittipaldi.

This was McLaren’s seventh Austrian Grand Prix victory, overtaking Ferrari and Mercedes for the most wins at the event. They also overtook Mercedes for the most wins at the Red Bull Ring in the venue’s history on the Formula 1 calendar.

Norris’ win was the tenth for a Mercedes-powered car at the Austrian Grand Prix, overtaking Ford Cosworth as the most successful engine manufacturer at the event.

The 2024 Austrian Grand Prix remains the only race at the Red Bull Ring in which Norris failed to score a point from his nine appearances to date. This was his third podium finish at the venue.

ON THE PODIUM

Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc joined Lando Norris on the podium at the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix.

This was the first time since 2000 that all of the top three drivers on the grid finished on the podium at the Red Bull Ring.

With Piastri finishing second to Norris, this was the 100th 1-2 finish for Mercedes-powered cars in Formula 1’s history. Mercedes is the second engine manufacturer to reach that milestone after Ford Cosworth, who did so at the 1981 San Marino Grand Prix.

This was McLaren’s first 1-2 at the Austrian Grand Prix since 2000.

This was the second year in a row that Piastri finished as runner-up in the Austrian Grand Prix.

Piastri leads the Drivers’ Championship by 15 points after the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix. He is the first Australian to lead the World Championship after seven consecutive races since Jack Brabham did so between the 1966 French and South African Grands Prix.

Leclerc finished on the podium for the fourth time this season. This was his fifth top three result at the Red Bull Ring, becoming only the fifth driver to record as many as five podium finishes at the event.

IN THE POINTS

Lewis Hamilton finished fourth in the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, moving clear of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas on the list of drivers who have finished the most races at the Red Bull Ring. This was his 13th finish at the track.

Hamilton equalled his best Grand Prix result of the season so far, having last finished fourth at Imola.

This was Hamilton’s 34th fourth place finish in Formula 1, equalling Sebastian Vettel for the most fourth places finishes in Grands Prix.

Hamilton led a Grand Prix lap for the second time this year, having last led at the Australian Grand Prix. He led a single lap in each race.

This was the first time since 2019 that both Ferrari drivers finished in the top four at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Liam Lawson finished sixth, recording the best result of his career to date. He recorded the Red Bull junior team’s best-ever result at the Red Bull Ring.

Fernando Alonso finished seventh for the 30th time in his career, overtaking Sergio Perez for the most seventh place finishes. This was Alonso’s second consecutive seventh place finish, as well as his third successive points-scoring appearance, having not scored in any of the first eight rounds of the season.

Gabriel Bortoleto scored the first points of his Formula 1 career with an eighth place finish in the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix. His drive saw him voted Driver Of The Day for the first time.

Bortoleto became the first Brazilian driver to score a point in Formula 1 since Felipe Massa finished tenth on his final appearance at the 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

With Nico Hulkenberg finishing ninth, the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix is the first race in which both of the Sauber team’s drivers have scored since the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, when their drivers also finished eighth and ninth under their Alfa Romeo guise. It is Sauber’s first double points-scoring race since the 2018 Mexican Grand Prix.

This was Sauber’s first points-scoring appearance in Austria since 2020.

Hulkenberg scored points for a third consecutive race – his longest scoring streak since the 2024 Singapore, United States and Mexico City Grands Prix.

Hulkenberg gained the most places of any driver in the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, gaining 11 positions from 20th on the grid.

Hulkenberg became the first driver to score points from 20th on the grid at the Austrian Grand Prix since 1974, when Vittorio Brambilla finished sixth.

THE OTHER FINISHERS

With Yuki Tsunoda finishing 16th and Max Verstappen out on Lap 1, the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix was the first race in which Red Bull failed to score since the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix. It ended a 77-race scoring streak for the team – the second longest for any team in F1 history, bettered only by Ferrari who scored in all 81 races between the 2010 German Grand Prix and the 2014 Singapore Grand Prix.

This was Red Bull’s first-ever points-less appearance at their home track.

Tsunoda failed to score for a fourth consecutive Grand Prix weekend.

Lance Stroll finished 14th in the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix – his first top 14 result since scoring points at the Chinese Grand Prix.

This was Stroll’s worst result at the Austrian Grand Prix since his retirement in 2020.

With Pierre Gasly finishing 13th and Franco Colapinto 15th, this was the Enstone team’s first point-less visit to the Austrian Grand Prix since 2019.

THE RETIREES

Carlos Sainz failed to start the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix after his car became stuck in first gear on the grid before setting alight at the end of the pit lane. Sainz recorded the third DNS of his career, after the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix and the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix.

Kimi Antonelli collided with Max Verstappen at Turn 3 on the opening lap, putting both drivers out of the race. This ended a 31-race finishing and scoring streak for Verstappen, this being the first race he failed to finish since the 2024 Australian Grand Prix. It concluded the equal-seventh-longest finishing streak in F1, as well as the sport’s seventh-longest scoring streak.

This was Antonelli’s third DNF in the last five races. He became the first driver to retire at the Red Bull Ring since both drivers failed to finish in the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix.

Alex Albon failed to finish the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, recording a third successive retirement.

This was Williams’ first double non-finish since the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, as well as the team’s first double non-finish in Austria since 2001.

2017 remains the last time Williams scored a point at the Austrian Grand Prix.
