2024 Monaco Grand Prix: Milestones and F1 Records Which Could Be Broken

Verstappen is in search of a new consecutive pole record and a 60th win, Alonso could equal the record for the longest gap between first and last points-scoring races and Norris could overtake Hakkinen for third in the list of most laps raced with McLaren. Here are the milestones and the records which could be broken at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix!

THE 2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX MILESTONES

The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix will be the 1,109th World Championship event in Formula 1 history.

This will be the 70th time that Formula 1 has raced in Monaco. Monaco becomes the fifth country to have hosted 70 Formula 1 races, after Italy, Germany, Britain and the United States.

The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix will be the 81st time that the Monaco Grand Prix has been held since it was first staged in 1929.

The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix makes Circuit de Monaco only the second circuit, after Monza, to have hosted 70 World Championship races.

Circuit de Monaco becomes only the second circuit, after Monza, to have hosted 70 World Championship races.

This weekend, Fernando Alonso will become the first driver to make 20 appearances at the Monaco Grand Prix. Prior to the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, he is tied with Rubens Barrichello on 19 starts at Circuit de Monaco.

With a 56 point advantage over Ferrari, Red Bull will continue to lead the Constructors’ Championship after the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. The Monaco race will be the 116th after which they have led the championship, seeing them overtake Williams for fourth on the list of most races after which a team has led the title race.

Max Verstappen will continue to lead the Drivers’ Championship after the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, which will see him equal Sebastian Vettel for fourth on the list of most races after which a driver has led the title race.

The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix will be the eighth Formula 1 race to take place on May 26. All but one of the seven previous races on this date also took place in Monaco.

MONACO MAGIC FOR MAX?

After equalling Ayrton Senna’s record of eight consecutive pole positions last weekend, Max Verstappen could set a new outright record for the most successive poles in F1 history at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.

A pole for Verstappen would also make him the first driver to secure pole position at all of the first eight races of a Formula 1 season. He equalled Alain Prost’s 1993 record for the most poles at the start of a season at the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

A victory for Max Verstappen at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix would mark his 60th Grand Prix win. He’d be the third driver to record 60 victories, after Michael Schumacher at the 2002 British Grand Prix and Lewis Hamilton at the 2017 Singapore Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen has led at least one lap in all of the last 14 Grands Prix. Should he lead a lap in the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix it would be only the fourth time that a driver has led a lap in 15 successive races. Jackie Stewart (1968-70), Michael Schumacher (2004) and Lewis Hamilton (2014-15) are the only other drivers to have led laps at 15 Grands Prix in a row.

A pole position for Max Verstappen at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix would make him the 12th driver to secure back-to-back poles in Monaco, while a win would make him the ninth driver to win successive races in the principality. Read more: Back to Back Successes at the Monaco Grand Prix.

At the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen joined Fernando Alonso as only the second driver to have won races from nine different grid positions. Either driver could become the first to win from ten different grid positions, while Lewis Hamilton could equal the existing record.

If Max Verstappen leads every lap of the race, he will overtake Jim Clark for fourth in the list of most races led from start to end. It would be the 14th time he has done so in his career.

A runner-up finish for Max Verstappen would see him record his 30th second place finish in Formula 1. He would move ahead of both Rubens Barrichello and Valtteri Bottas to seventh on the list of most runner-up finishes in F1.

THE FORMULA 1 RECORDS WHICH COULD BE BROKEN

If Fernando Alonso scores a point at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, he will equal Michael Schumacher’s record for the longest amount of time between first and last points-scoring appearances in Formula 1. Schumacher’s record is 21 years, 2 months and 17 days between his first points at the 1991 Italian Grand Prix and his last at the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix. If Alonso scores on race day at Monaco, it will mark the same amount of time since his first points-scoring race at the 2003 Australian Grand Prix.

A Fastest Lap for a Ferrari-powered car would see them equal their own record for the most Fastest Laps at a single circuit for an engine manufacturer. Ferrari-powered cars have set the Fastest Lap 19 times to date at Monza and 18 times so far in Monaco.

A Q1 elimination for Kevin Magnussen at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix would see him overtake Marcus Ericsson at the top of the list of most Q1 exits since the elimination qualifying format was introduced in 2006.

Lando Norris has been voted F1 Driver Of The Day at all of the last three races. Another win at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix would see him set a new record for the most consecutive races at which a driver has won the vote.

A Q3 appearance for Nico Hulkenberg at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix will mark the first time he has qualified in the top ten at four consecutive races since the four races between the 2019 Belgian and Russian Grands Prix.

If both Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen are eliminated in Q1 at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, Haas will reach 150 Q1 exits since joining Formula 1 at the start of 2016.

A 1-2 finish for Mercedes would make them the second team, after Ferrari, to record 60 1-2 finishes in Formula 1. Ferrari reached the milestone at the 2002 United States Grand Prix.

A points finish for Logan Sargeant would make the United States the 12th country to score 1,000 points in World Championship history.

A front row start for Oscar Piastri would make this the 100th Grand Prix at which an Australian driver has lined up on the front row of the grid.

If Oscar Piastri or Daniel Ricciardo score a point at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, it will be the 350th Grand Prix weekend at which an Australian driver has scored a point. Furthermore, if they score seven points between them, Australia will become the seventh nation to have scored 3,000 points in Formula 1.

A top ten finish for George Russell will make this the 50th Grand Prix weekend at which he has scored a point.

If a driver of any Ferrari-powered car (Ferrari, Sauber or Haas) lead a lap of the race, this will be the 500th Grand Prix in which a Ferrari-powered car has led.

If Lando Norris completes 17 laps of the race, he will overtake Mika Hakkinen as the driver who has raced the third most Grand Prix laps with McLaren.

THE MONACO GRAND PRIX RECORDS TO BREAK

A top three finish for Lewis Hamilton would see him equal Ayrton Senna’s record of eight podium finishes at the Monaco Grand Prix.

A win for a Mercedes-powered car would see Mercedes equal Ford Cosworth as the most successful engine manufacturer at the Monaco Grand Prix. Cars powered by Ford Cosworth have won the Monaco Grand Prix on 13 occasions. Ford Cosworth has held the record for most Monaco Grand Prix wins since 1974.

If Lewis Hamilton leads 55 laps of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, he will become the fifth driver – after Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher – to have led 300 laps of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has the most top ten finishes of any driver at the Monaco Grand Prix, with 15. He could extend that record this weekend, while Fernando Alonso could equal Hamilton’s existing tally.

Fernando Alonso could also equal Lewis Hamilton’s record of 16 finishes at the Monaco Grand Prix if he reaches the chequered flag on Sunday.

Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri will both be hoping to maintain their 100% points-scoring rate in Monaco at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.

A first lap retirement for any driver would make them the first driver to record a first lap retirement at the Monaco Grand Prix in ten years, since Sergio Perez in 2014.

2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX: QUALIFYING RECORDS

Ferrari currently hold the record for the most team poles in Monaco, with 12. McLaren will equal that figure if they take pole position for the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.

Renault and Ferrari are tied as the engine manufacturers with the most pole positions in Monaco. A pole for either manufacturer this weekend would see them set a new outright record of 13 poles at the event, while pole at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix for a Mercedes-powered car would see Mercedes equal the existing record.

Carlos Sainz will be hoping to remain in a group of five drivers with a 100% Q3 appearance rate at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Marcus Ericsson currently holds the record for the most Q1 exits in Monaco, with five. Lance Stroll could equal Ericsson’s record during qualifying for the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.

CAN LECLERC CONVERT A POLE TO A WIN?

Pole position for a Ferrari driver would mark the 250th pole position for a Ferrari car in Formula 1 history.

A pole position for Charles Leclerc would see him overtake Niki Lauda as the driver to have taken the second-most pole positions with Ferrari. Only Michael Schumacher has taken more poles at Ferrari than Lauda and Leclerc.

Charles Leclerc has failed to convert all of his last 12 pole positions into wins. Should he take pole and fail to win again this weekend, he would equal the record for most successive poles without a win. Rene Arnoux currently holds the record, having failed to convert any of the first 13 poles of his career into victories.

If Charles Leclerc takes pole position and fails to win, it would be the 20th time that he has done so in his Formula 1 career. That would see him overtake Nelson Piquet for fifth in the list of most failed pole to win conversions.

LONGEVITY RECORDS FOR HAMILTON AND ALONSO

A victory for Lewis Hamilton at any race in 2024 would see him overtake Michael Schumacher as the driver to have won at least one race in the most Formula 1 seasons. Both Schumacher and Hamilton have won races in 15 different Formula 1 seasons.

A podium finish for Lewis Hamilton at any race in 2024 would make him the third oldest British driver to finish on the Formula 1 podium. He currently sits fourth in the list, behind Nigel Mansell, Graham Hill and Reg Parnell.

A Fastest Lap for Lewis Hamilton would make him the first driver to have set a Fastest Lap in 17 Formula 1 seasons. A Fastest Lap would also see Hamilton equal Schumacher’s record for most consecutive seasons in which a driver has set the Fastest Lap in a Grand Prix. Schumacher set at least one Fastest Lap in all 15 seasons between 1992 and 2006, while Hamilton has set a Fastest Lap every year since 2010.

A Fastest Lap for Lewis Hamilton would see him set a new record for most Fastest Laps with a single team. He is currently tied with Michael Schumacher, having set 53 Fastest Laps with Mercedes. Schumacher took 53 Fastest Laps with Ferrari during his tenure at the team.

A win for Fernando Alonso at any Grand Prix in 2024 would make him the oldest driver to win a Grand Prix since Jack Brabham at the 1970 South African Grand Prix.

A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would see him overtake Alain Prost as the driver to have taken the fourth-most podiums in Formula 1 history.

A podium finish for Fernando Alonso would make him the third driver – after Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton – to record podium finishes in 15 different Formula 1 seasons.

Pole position at any race for Fernando Alonso in 2024 would make him the oldest polesitter since Jack Brabham at the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix.

If Fernando Alonso leads a lap of any race in 2024, he would become the first driver to have led Formula 1 races over a period longer than 20 years. Alonso first led a Grand Prix in Malaysia in 2003. He most recently led at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, just a week short of the 20th anniversary of him leading a lap for the first time in Formula 1.
