Your 2024 Australian Grand Prix Predictions: The Results

Did you predict a non-Verstappen victory? Or a top four finish Piastri? How many of your pre-race predictions for the 2024 Australian Grand Prix were correct? Find out below!

1. WILL BOTH AUSTRALIANS SCORE IN THE 2024 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX?

YOUR PREDICTION: PIASTRI WILL, RICCIARDO WON’T

CORRECT ANSWER: PIASTRI WILL, RICCIARDO WON’T

Oscar Piastri was in contention for a home podium at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix but settled for a fourth place finish. It equalled the best result ever for an Australian driver on home soil in Formula 1. Daniel Ricciardo, meanwhile, started 18th and gained six positions during the race to come home 12th.

2. WILL VERSTAPPEN TAKE A 10TH CONSECUTIVE WIN?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

Almost 90% of you expected Max Verstappen to equal his own record of ten consecutive Grand Prix victories – but the Dutchman’s race was over before the end of Lap 3. After being passed for the lead by Carlos Sainz – who went on to win the race – smoke began to appear from the rear of Verstappen’s car. He soon plummeted down the order and retired, recording his first DNF since the 2022 Australian Grand Prix.

3. WILL WILLIAMS SCORE ANY POINTS?

YOUR PREDICTION: NO

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

Williams’ chances of scoring points at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix decreased by 50% on Friday when Alex Albon damaged his chassis with a crash in Free Practice 1. The incident meant that the team could field only one car for the rest of the weekend, with Albon getting the call ahead of Logan Sargeant. Albon came close to scoring points but could finish no higher than 11th.

4. WHO’LL FINISH HIGHEST: OCON, SARGEANT, ZHOU OR TSUNODA?

YOUR PREDICTION: YUKI TSUNODA

CORRECT ANSWER: YUKI TSUNODA

As 70% predicted, Yuki Tsunoda scored the most points of this quartet. He was promoted to seventh following Fernando Alonso’s post-race penalty. Tsunoda was the only driver of these four to score points. Zhou Guanyu finished 15th, Esteban Ocon was behind him in 16th and Logan Sargeant was withdrawn from the race weekend on Friday.

5. HOW MANY DRIVERS WILL FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 18 OR 19

CORRECT ANSWER: 16

Fewer drivers finished the 2024 Australian Grand Prix than most predicted. 16 of the 19 drivers crossed the finish line. Max Verstappen retired in the early stages, Lewis Hamilton was out with an engine failure and his Mercedes team-mate George Russell crashed out on the final lap.
