Norris takes his first 11 wins at 11 different circuits, Verstappen goes from the pit lane to the podium and Albon records Williams’ first fastest lap in over 11 years. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix!
NORRIS WINS THE 2025 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris extended his championship lead over the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend with victories in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix.
This was the 11th Grand Prix win of Norris’ career. All 11 of his wins have come at different circuits, setting a new record. Michael Schumacher is the only other driver to have won all of his first 10 Grands Prix at different circuits.
Norris won for the seventh time this season, equalling Oscar Piastri for the most Grand Prix victories in 2025.
This was the 43rd podium finish of Norris’ career, equalling Jackie Stewart for 21st on the all-time podium list.
Having won last time out in Mexico, Norris took consecutive wins for the third time in his career. These were his first successive wins since the Austrian and British Grands Prix.
The 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix was the seventh consecutive race to be won from pole position. It is the longest streak of wins from pole since the seven races between the 2019 United States Grand Prix and the 2020 British Grand Prix.
Norris equalled Felipe Massa and Rubens Barrichello for fourth on the list of most Grand Prix wins without winning a title.
This was McLaren’s ninth victory at Interlagos, equalling Ferrari for the most victories at the track. They also extended the record for the most overall wins in Brazil to 13 and overtook Ferrari for the most laps led at Interlagos.
This was the first time McLaren won in Brazil since Jenson Button took victory in the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris’ podium finish saw Britain overtake Germany as the nation with the most top three finishes at Interlagos.
ON THE PODIUM
Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen joined Lando Norris on the podium at the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Kimi Antonelli recorded the best result of his career to date, finishing as runner-up. This was his second podium finish – his first since the Canadian Grand Prix. Antonelli became the 150th driver to record multiple podium finishes in Formula 1 history.
The drivers starting first and second finished in the same order as they started for a fourth consecutive race. It equals the longest streak of the first and second place drivers being unchanged by the end of the race, which has happened only twice before – between the 1992 Mexican and San Marino Grands Prix, and between the 2016 United States and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.
Max Verstappen finished third in the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix having started from the pit lane. This was the first time a driver finished on the podium having started from the pit lane since Lewis Hamilton did so at the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix. In total, it is the eighth time that a driver has driven from the pit lane to the podium.
Making up 16 positions in the race, this was the first time Verstappen gained more than two positions in a Grand Prix since last year’s race at Interlagos, where he also made up 16 places.
Verstappen was voted Driver of the Day with 56.7% of the vote – the second largest percentage in the vote’s history, bettered only by his win at the 2019 Austrian Grand Prix.
With Verstappen having led four laps of the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Red Bull became the fourth constructor – after Ferrari, McLaren and Williams – to have led as many as 200 Grands Prix.
Verstappen was the only driver to score a point in the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix having started outside of the top ten.
IN THE POINTS
Finishing fourth in the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, George Russell continued the longest active scoring streak, finishing in the points for the 13th consecutive Grand Prix.
After picking up a ten-second time penalty during the race, Oscar Piastri finished fifth for the third consecutive Grand Prix. This was his best result to date at Interlagos.
With Norris taking victory and Piastri finishing fifth, this was the first time since 2010 that both McLaren drivers finished in the top five at Interlagos.
Ollie Bearman came home sixth in the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, scoring points for a fourth consecutive Grand Prix. This was the third top six finish of this career, all three having been in the last seven race weekends.
Bearman recorded Haas’ best-ever result at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The team had scored points only once before here, in 2018 when both Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen finished in the top ten.
With Liam Lawson seventh and Isack Hadjar eighth, Racing Bulls recorded their first double points finish since the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. This was the second year in a row that the team recorded a double points finish at Interlagos.
Along with Max Verstappen, Lawson remained in the group of drivers with a 100% point-scoring record at Interlagos. Kimi Antonelli and Isack Hadjar joined the group, which also consists of Didier Pironi, Gunnar Nilsson, Jackie Stewart and Max Verstappen.
Finishing ninth, Nico Hulkenberg scored points for the second time in the last three races having not scored any points in the previous six Grands Prix.
This was the first time since 2017 that Hulkenberg scored a point at Interlagos.
Pierre Gasly finished tenth in the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, scoring the first Grand Prix points for Alpine since he finished tenth at the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
THE OTHER FINISHERS
With Alex Albon 11th and Carlos Sainz 13th, this was the seventh consecutive Interlagos race at which neither Williams driver scored a point.
Esteban Ocon finished 12th, failing to score a point in Brazil for the first time since 2018.
Finishing only 17th, Yuki Tsunoda failed to score a point for the 11th time in the last 14 races.
Franco Colapinto finished 15th, becoming the first Alpine driver to fail to score at Interlagos since Nico Hulkenberg also finished 15th with the Enstone-based team in the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix.
For the first time in his career, Alex Albon set the fastest lap of the race at the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. This was the first time that a Williams driver recorded the fastest lap of a race since Valtteri Bottas did so at the 2014 Russian Grand Prix.
Finishing 16th, Lance Stroll overtook Kevin Magnussen for third on the list of most starts without a Grand Prix win. Only Nico Hulkenberg and Andrea de Cesaris now sit ahead of Stroll on the all-time list.
A DOUBLE DNF FOR FERRARI
Ferrari recorded their second double DNF of the season at the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, having last seen both of their drivers out at Zandvoort. For both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, this was their second retirement of the season.
This was Ferrari’s fourth double DNF at Interlagos, after 1980, 2003 and 2019.
Hamilton recorded his third retirement at Interlagos – his first since 2012.
Gabriel Bortoleto was the only other driver to retire from the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, crashing out on Lap 1. This was the eighth first lap retirement of the season.
This was Bortoleto’s fourth DNF of the year – his first since the British Grand Prix.
