
Verstappen becomes the driver with the most poles in 2025, Antonelli and Bortoleto record the best qualifying results of their careers so far and Williams record a double Q3 appearance. Here are the facts and statistics from qualifying at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix!
VERSTAPPEN ON POLE AT THE 2025 MIAMI GRAND PRIX
Max Verstappen secured pole position for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, recording the 43rd pole position of his Formula 1 career. Verstappen is now the driver with the most poles so far this season, this being his third pole of the year.
Verstappen became the first driver to take multiple pole positions in Miami, and equalled Charles Leclerc as the driver with the most front row starts at Miami International Autodrome.
This was Red Bull’s third consecutive pole in Miami, extending their record as the team with the most successive poles at the track.
With a pole position lap time of 1:26.204, Max Verstappen set a new Track Record at Miami International Autodrome, breaking the record set by Kimi Antonelli the previous day.
This was the first time since the start of the 2024 season that Verstappen secured consecutive pole positions.
IN THE TOP TEN
Along with Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz became the first drivers to reach Q3 in Miami on four occasions, having never missed out on reaching Q3 since the Miami Grand Prix was first held in 2022.
Lando Norris qualified on the front row – and in the top five – for the first time since the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix.
After taking pole position for the Sprint race, Kimi Antonelli recorded his best Grand Prix qualifying result to date at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix with third place.
This was the first time in Grand Prix qualifying that Antonelli qualified ahead of Mercedes team-mate George Russell.
With fourth on the grid, Oscar Piastri qualified outside of the top three for the first time since the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix.
Norris and Piastri qualified second and fourth for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. No McLaren driver had previously qualified in the top four for the event.
George Russell continued his record of qualifying in the top five at every Grand Prix to date in 2025 but with fifth place equalled his worst qualifying result of the season. He also qualified fifth at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Russell recorded his best Miami Grand Prix qualifying result from his four appearances so far at the track.
Antonelli and Russell made this the first time that a Mercedes driver qualified in the top five at the Miami Grand Prix.
Williams recorded their first double Q3 appearance since the Australian Grand Prix.
Carlos Sainz qualified sixth for the second race weekend in a row. This was the first time he qualified outside of the top three for the Miami Grand Prix.
Alex Albon reached Q3 for the first time in three races and recorded his second-best qualifying result of the year with seventh place.
This was Albon’s first Q3 appearance at the Miami Grand Prix – but was also the first time he has been out-qualified by his team-mate at the track.
Sainz and Albon recorded Williams’ first Q3 appearances in Miami. The team had never previously qualified above 11th place at the track.
Both Ferrari drivers recorded their worst qualifying results of the year to date at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc qualified eighth, qualifying outside of the top four for the first time since the Chinese Grand Prix.
This was Leclerc’s worst Miami Grand Prix qualifying result to date as well as the first time that no Ferrari drivers qualified in the top three for the event.
Esteban Ocon reached Q3 for the first time as a Haas driver. The 2025 Miami Grand Prix marked his first Q3 appearance since the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
This was the first time Ocon out-qualified a team-mate at the Miami Grand Prix.
Qualifying tenth for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda reached Q3 for a third consecutive race – his longest streak of Q3 appearances since reaching Q3 at all four races between the 2024 Miami and Canadian Grands Prix.
Tenth place is the worst qualifying result to date for a Red Bull driver at the Miami Grand Prix.
ELIMINATED IN Q2
For the first time as a Ferrari driver, Lewis Hamilton failed to reach Q3 at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. He qualified 12th and recorded his second Q2 exit in Miami, his other having been in 2023 when he qualified 13th.
Gabriel Bortoleto qualified 13th for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix – the best qualifying result of his career to date. Bortoleto made it out of Q1 for the first time since the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
For the first time in Grand Prix qualifying, Jack Doohan out-qualified Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly.
OUT IN Q1
Fernando Alonso’s streak of five consecutive Q2 exits came to an end at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix as he recorded his first Q1 elimination since the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Lance Stroll exited in Q1 for a fourth consecutive race weekend – his longest streak since 2023. This was Stroll’s second Q1 exit at the Miami Grand Prix, joining Kevin Magnussen, Logan Sargeant and Zhou Guanyu as only the fourth driver to record multiple Q1 exits in Miami.
Stroll qualified on the back row for the third time this season.
Stroll was out-qualified by Alonso for the 18th consecutive Grand Prix.
With both Alonso and Stroll out in Q1, Aston Martin recorded their first double Q1 exit since the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Qualifying 18th, Pierre Gasly recorded his second Q1 exit of the 2025 season, having reached Q3 at each of the last two race weekends.
Ollie Bearman qualified 20th for the third time this year at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix.
