Norris becomes the first driver to win his first ten Grands Prix at different venues, Verstappen gains more than one place in a Grand Prix for the first time this year and Alonso records a fourth consecutive DNF in Mexico. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix!
NORRIS WINS THE 2025 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris claimed the tenth win of his career at the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix. This was Norris’ first victory since the Hungarian Grand Prix. It was his sixth win of the season – one fewer than team-mate Oscar Piastri.
With his victory, Norris climbed to the top of the championship standings for the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Norris joins a club of eight other drivers who’ve won as many as ten Grands Prix without ever winning the World Championship.
Norris became only the second driver – after Michael Schumacher – to record all of his first ten Grand Prix wins at different venues.
This was McLaren’s first victory in Mexico since Ayrton Senna won the 1989 Mexican Grand Prix.
This is the third F1 race which Norris has led from start to end, after the 2024 Singapore and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix. With George Russell setting the fastest lap, Norris remains yet to record a Grand Slam.
Norris won the race by 30.324 seconds – the largest winning margin of the season. It was also the largest winning margin in Mexico since Graham Hill won by almost 80 seconds in 1968.
Norris recorded the 42nd podium finish of his career, equalling Damon Hill and Mark Webber for 22nd on the all-time list.
The 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix was the sixth consecutive race to be won from pole position. It’s the first time as many as six races in a row have been won from pole since the six races between the 2022 Mexico City Grand Prix and the 2023 Australian Grand Prix.
ON THE PODIUM
Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen joined Lando Norris on the podium at the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix. This was the fifth time that the trio appeared on the podium together – and the second race in a row at which they did so.
Leclerc recorded his 50th podium finish, becoming the 18th driver to record as many as 50 top three finishes in Formula 1. He equalled Jenson Button on the all-time list.
This was Ferrari’s first top two finish since the Monaco Grand Prix.
Verstappen finished on the podium for the sixth consecutive race.
This was Verstappen’s sixth podium finish at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, equalling Lewis Hamilton for the most top three finishes at the track.
Verstappen recorded his 123rd podium finish, overtaking Sebastian Vettel for third on the all-time list, behind Lewis Hamilton (202) and Michael Schumacher (155).
Verstappen gained two positions in the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix. It is the first time he gained more than one position in a Grand Prix since making up 16 positions to win last year’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
2025 is the first time since 2016 that Verstappen finished in a position other than first or sixth in Mexico.
IN THE POINTS
Ollie Bearman equalled Haas’ best-ever F1 result in the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, finishing fourth. It was the second time a Haas driver finished in the top four, after Romain Grosjean at the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix.
This was the first top six finish for a Haas driver at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Bearman’s drive saw him voted Driver of The Day for the first time since his debut with Ferrari at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
This was Bearman’s third consecutive points-scoring Grand Prix. He had never previously finished in the top five.
Along with Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri maintained his 100% points-finishing record in Mexico by finishing fifth in the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix.
Piastri finished off the podium for a fourth consecutive race, having failed to finish in the top three in only one of the previous 15 races.
This was Piastri’s best result to date in Mexico. He finished eighth on his previous two appearances.
Kimi Antonelli finished ahead of his team-mate in a Grand Prix for the first time in his career.
With Antonelli sixth and George Russell seventh, this was the first time neither Mercedes driver finished in the top four in Mexico.
Russell set the fastest lap in the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, meaning Mercedes equalled Ferrari as the team with the most fastest laps at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The two teams are tied on six fastest laps at the track.
With a seventh place finish, Russell finished outside of the top six for the first time since finishing tenth in the British Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton, who finished eighth, and Max Verstappen extended their record for most points-scoring appearances in Mexico to ten. They also moved clear of Valtteri Bottas at the top of the list of most finishes at the event.
This was only the second time – after 2017, when he finished ninth – that Hamilton finished outside of the top four in Mexico.
Hamilton became the first Ferrari driver to finish outside of the top six in Mexico since both drivers retired from the 2015 Mexican Grand Prix.
With Hamilton having finished eighth, this was the first time since 2018 that the driver who started from third on the grid did not finish either first or second in Mexico.
Esteban Ocon finished ninth in the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, recording his first points since the Dutch Grand Prix and his best finish since finishing ninth in Canada.
This was the second year in a row that Haas saw both drivers score points in Mexico. Prior to 2024, their cars had picked up points only once in seven appearances.
Gabriel Bortoleto gained six positions on his way to a tenth place finish at the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix. It’s the most places he’s gained in a race in his career to date.
This was the first time Bortoleto finished in the points since the Italian Grand Prix.
THE OTHER FINISHERS
Finishing 11th, Yuki Tsunoda failed to score a point for the tenth time in the last 13 race weekends. He remains yet to score a point in Mexico during his career.
Lance Stroll equalled Kevin Magnussen for third place on the list of most F1 starts without taking a victory.
With Stroll 14th and Fernando Alonso failing to finish, this was the fourth year in a row that Aston Martin failed to score a point in Mexico.
Pierre Gasly finished 15th in the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, while Franco Colapinto finished 16th. That made 2025 the first time since 2017 that the Enstone-based team failed to score a point in Mexico.
THE RETIREES
Liam Lawson was the first driver to retire from the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix. This was his fifth retirement of the year – his first since the British Grand Prix, ending a seven-race finishing streak.
This was the fourth retirement in Mexico for the Red Bull junior team in the last five years.
Nico Hulkenberg was the second driver to retire from the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix. This was Hulkenberg’s first DNF of the year – but it was the third time he was not classified in 2025. He recorded a disqualification at the Bahrain Grand Prix and failed to start the Italian Grand Prix.
This was Hulkenberg’s second retirement in Mexico. He last failed to finish here in 2017.
Hulkenberg recorded the Sauber team’s first retirement in Mexico since 2019.
Fernando Alonso retired from the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, recording his fourth retirement in the last four years in Mexico. Alonso has scored only three points from his eight appearances here. Six of those appearances have resulted in retirements.
Alonso became the first driver to record as many as six retirements at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and also equalled the record for most consecutive DNFs at the track, which is now shared between him, Moisés Solana, Satoru Nakajima, Chris Amon and Jochen Rindt.
This was Alonso’s fifth retirement of the year.
Carlos Sainz brought out the only Virtual Safety Car period of the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix when he came to a stop at the side of the track in the closing stages. This was the fourth year in a row that the driver who started 13th in Mexico failed to finish the race.
