Your 2020 #StyrianGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. HOW MANY OF LAST WEEK’S TOP 10 WILL SCORE?

YOUR PREDICTION: 6

CORRECT ANSWER: 5 or less

45% of you predicted that six of the drivers who scored last week would score again this week, but only five drivers scored at both the Austrian and Styrian Grands Prix. Those five drivers were the Mercedes pair, the McLaren pair and Sergio Perez. The Racing Point driver finished in sixth place in both races.

2. WILL BOTH FERRARI DRIVERS REACH Q3?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

After a disappointing first weekend of the year, 60% of you expected both Ferrari drivers to reach Q3 this weekend. Even though the qualifying session was held in completely different conditions, one Ferrari driver was still eliminated in Q2 at the Styrian Grand Prix. While Sebastian Vettel qualified eleventh last week, Charles Leclerc did so this week. This is the first time only one Ferrari driver has reached Q3 at consecutive races since the 2015 Canadian and Austrian Grands Prix.

3. WHERE WILL RICCIARDO QUALIFY?

YOUR PREDICTION: 9th or 10th

CORRECT ANSWER: 9th or 10th

Daniel Ricciardo suffered a big shunt in Free Practice 2 for the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix, but that didn’t stop him from reaching Q3 in the wet on Saturday. Although he was out-qualified by his team-mate, Ricciardo qualified ninth and moved up to eighth on the grid following a penalty for Lando Norris.

4. HOW MANY OF LAST WEEK’S NON-SCORERS WILL SCORE?

YOUR PREDICTION: 1

CORRECT ANSWER: 1

Last week, Red Bull, Haas and Williams were the only three teams who failed to score. This week, of those three, only Red Bull scored – with Max Verstappen finishing third and Alex Albon fourth. While seven teams scored last week, only six scored in the Styrian Grand Prix.

5. HOW MANY DRIVERS WILL FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 14 or 15

CORRECT ANSWER: 16 or 17

The 2020 Austrian Grand Prix was a race of attrition, with only eleven drivers reaching the chequered flag. This week, seventeen drivers finished the race. The Ferrari drivers collided on the first lap and eliminated themselves from the afternoon’s running, while Esteban Ocon retired on Lap 26.
