The Hungaroring becomes the first circuit at which Norris has won twice, Hulkenberg scores his first points of the year and Cadillac record their second double DNF. Here are the facts and statistics from the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix!
NORRIS WINS THE 2026 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX
Lando Norris took victory at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, claiming his first win since the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
This was the 12th win of Norris’ career, equalling Mario Andretti, Carlos Reutemann and Alan Jones for 25th on the list of most races won in Formula 1 history.
Norris equalled David Coulthard for sixth on the list of most Grand Prix wins with McLaren.
The Hungaroring became the first circuit at which Norris has taken multiple Grand Prix victories. This was the fourth year in a row that Norris finished in the top two at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Norris’ win made 2026 the 40th season in which McLaren have secured a Grand Prix victory. McLaren extended their record for most podium finishes at the Hungarian Grand Prix to 28.
Norris is the first polesitter to win the Hungarian Grand Prix since Lewis Hamilton in 2020.
This was Norris’ first podium finish since the 2026 Barcelona Grand Prix, and his third top three finish of the year so far – each of those being on a different step of the podium.
Norris became the fifth different Grand Prix winner in the last five race weekends. It is the first time that as many as five different drivers have won consecutive Grands Prix since 2024.
ON THE PODIUM
Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli joined Lando Norris on the podium at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Verstappen equalled his best result of the season, having also finished as runner-up at the Austrian Grand Prix.
This was Verstappen’s fifth podium finish at the Hungaroring.
Driving from seventh on the grid to the final spot on the podium, this was the first race since the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix in which Antonelli gained more than one position from where he started.
Antonelli secured his ninth podium finish in the 11 races to date so far this season.
Antonelli led ten laps of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, making this the 200th Grand Prix led by a Mercedes driver. Mercedes are the fifth constructor to reach the milestone, after Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Red Bull.
This was the third year in a row that a Mercedes driver finished in third place at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
IN THE POINTS
Charles Leclerc set the fastest lap of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix – his first fastest lap since the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Leclerc’s fastest lap saw Ferrari overtake Williams for the most fastest laps at the Hungaroring, this being the team’s tenth at the track.
Leclerc finished fourth at the Hungaroring for the third season in a row.
Finishing fifth in the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton is yet to finish outside of the top six this year. He has finished in the top five at all of the last seven Grands Prix.
This was the first time since 2019 that both Ferrari drivers finished in the top five at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Isack Hadjar finished in the top six for the seventh race in a row. This was his fourth sixth place finish in the last five races.
George Russell’s seventh place made this the sixth year in a row in which he has finished in the top eight at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
With eighth place, Liam Lawson scored points for the eighth time in the last ten races. Lawson has finished eighth on both of his appearances at the Hungarian Grand Prix to date.
Arvid Lindblad scored a point for the sixth Grand Prix weekend in a row.
This was Racing Bulls’ fifth double points finish in the last six Grand Prix weekends. It was the team’s first double points scoring race in Hungary since 2019.
Nico Hulkenberg scored his first points of the season at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing the race in ninth place. It was his first points-scoring appearance since the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he also finished ninth.
This was the first time since 2016 that Hulkenberg scored a point at the Hungaroring. His sixth place on his maiden appearance here in 2010, is the only time that Hulkenberg has finished higher than ninth at this track.
This was the third race in a row in which Audi scored a point.
THE OTHER FINISHERS
Gabriel Bortoleto finished 11th in the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing 11th for the fourth time in the last six races.
With Pierre Gasly 12th and Franco Colapinto 15th, the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix was only the second race of the year – after the Austrian Grand Prix – in which Alpine failed to score any points. It was the fourth year in a row that the team failed to score at the Hungaroring.
Lance Stroll recorded his best result of the season to date at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing in 13th place.
Stroll gained seven positions in the Hungarian Grand Prix – the most places he’s gained in a Grand Prix so far this season.
Stroll’s 13th place ended a three-year streak of points finishes for the Canadian driver in Hungary.
Fernando Alonso finished 14th – his best result since scoring a point at the Monaco Grand Prix.
From his last 15 appearances at the Hungaroring, this was only the second time – after 2024 – that Alonso failed to score a point.
This was the first time since 2019 that the Silverstone-based team failed to score a point at the Hungaroring.
Williams failed to score a point in Hungary for the fifth year in a row, while Haas failed to score here for the sixth season in succession.
THE RETIREES
Three drivers retired from the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix: Oscar Piastri, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
Oscar Piastri’s retirement saw his 100% points-rate at the Hungarian Grand Prix come to an end. He had never previously finished outside of the top five at the Hungaroring.
This was Piastri’s first retirement since failing to start the first two races of the season.
Both Cadillac drivers retired for the second time this season, after the Austrian Grand Prix. The team have recorded eight retirements in the last seven Grand Prix weekends.
Valtteri Bottas recorded his fourth DNF in the last six races, while Sergio Perez recorded his third DNF in the last four Grands Prix.
This was the first time Perez recorded retirements at successive races since his final two Grands Prix with Red Bull in 2024.
