2022 Monaco Grand Prix

Zhou Guanyu recorded Alfa Romeo’s second Q2 exit of the season and the first back row qualification of his career. It was the first time since 2018 that the team has seen a car eliminated in Q1 at the Monaco Grand Prix.

2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

For the first time in Formula 1, Zhou Guanyu out-qualified his team-mate. Zhou retired from the race when running inside the top ten. This was Zhou’s third retirement in the last four races. All three retirements have been caused by mechanical issues. Zhou is the first Alfa Romeo driver to retire from a race at Baku City Circuit.

2022 Canadian Grand Prix

Out-qualifying his team-mate for the second race in a row, Zhou Guanyu reached Q3 for the first time in his Formula 1 career. Overall, he is the 63rd driver to appear in Q3 since the qualifying system was introduced in 2006. Zhou’s tenth place in qualifying was the first time that his team has reached Q3 at the Canadian Grand Prix since 2008. In the race, Zhou recorded his best result in Formula 1 to date with eighth place. This was the first time he has scored since the Bahrain Grand Prix.

2022 British Grand Prix

2022 Austrian Grand Prix

2022 Dutch Grand Prix

Zhou Guanyu was one of three drivers to compete at Zandvoort in F1 machinery for the first time in 2022, along with Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen. The trio’s presence on the grid took the total number of drivers to have started the Dutch Grand Prix in World Championship history to 204. This was Zhou’s first appearance at the track since racing in the 2018 FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Zhou qualified in 14th place for the Dutch Grand Prix and came home 16th.

2022 Italian Grand Prix

With tenth place, Zhou Guanyu picked up points for the third time in his career. It was the first time he or the Alfa Romeo team has scored since the Canadian Grand Prix. 2022 Japanese Grand Prix

Zhou Guanyu recorded the fastest lap of the race for the first time in his career. He became the 136th driver to set the fastest lap in a World Championship race. It was the first fastest lap for the Alfa Romeo marque since Andrea de Cesaris set the fastest lap in the 1983 Belgian Grand Prix and the first fastest lap for the former Sauber team since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.

2022 United States Grand Prix

For the fourth time in the last five races, Zhou Guanyu qualified in 14th place. Zhou had set a lap time good enough to join his team-mate in Q3, but it was deleted as he exceeded track limits. Zhou finished in 11th place following Alonso’s post-race penalty, which would have made this the third consecutive United States Grand Prix in which an Alfa Romeo driver finished in 11th place. However, he dropped back down to 12th as Alonso’s penalty was overturned.

2022 Mexico City Grand Prix

Zhou Guanyu failed to score for the fourth race in a row, coming home in 13th place. He lost one position from where he started.
