Alpine Unveil the A521

Alpine have revealed their 2021 Formula 1 car – the A521.

Alpine have unveiled their first Formula 1 car. The A521 was revealed online on Tuesday afternoon. The Enstone team, who ran as Renault last season, re-brand as Apine in 2021. There have been plenty of changes at the team over the winter. Cyril Abiteboul has departed the Renault Group, while Laurent Rossi joins as Alpine’s CEO and former Suzuki MotoGP team manager Davide Brivio joins as the team’s racing director. Fernando Alonso, who returns to F1 with Alpine in 2021 after a two-season absence, was not present at the launch event having suffered a jaw injury in a cycling accident in February.

The Enstone team returned to the podium for the first time in five years in 2020. The team scored almost double the number of points as they did in 2019, but remained fifth overall in the Constructors’ Championship. Throughout the year, Renault were embroiled in a battle for third between themselves, McLaren and Racing Point.

Daniel Ricciardo provided Renault with their first Fastest Lap in over a decade, as well as their first podium finish since 2011. He finished third at the Eifel Grand Prix, and went on to finish third again at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. It was Esteban Ocon, however, who recorded Renault’s best result of the season with second place in the Sakhir Grand Prix. The team scored in all but one race in 2020 – and they’ll be hoping to continue their fruitful performances in 2021 under their new Alpine name.
