Your 2022 Australian GP Predictions: The Results

Did you predict a win from pole? Or that Mercedes would finish on the podium? Or that Alpine would out-score Haas? How many of your pre-race predictions for the 2022 Australian Grand Prix were correct? Find out below!

1. WILL THE POLESITTER WIN THE RACE?

YOUR PREDICTION: NO

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

Charles Leclerc became the first Australian Grand Prix polesitter to convert pole into victory since Lewis Hamilton in 2015. The Monegasque driver won the race by over 20 seconds.

2. WHERE WILL MERCEDES FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 4th or 5th

CORRECT ANSWER: ON THE PODIUM

Only 16% of you predicted that a Mercedes driver would appear on the podium at the Australian Grand Prix. A well-timed Safety Car outing saw George Russell catapult ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez in the order. While Perez eventually re-passed, Max Verstappen’s retirement saw Russell take the second podium finish of his F1 career.

3. WHAT WILL THE POLE TIME BE?

YOUR PREDICTION: 1:13.000-1:15.499

CORRECT ANSWER: 1:15.500-1:18.000

Charles Leclerc took pole position for the 2022 Australian Grand Prix with a 1:17.868. That’s a 2.618 second improvement on the fastest qualifying time from 2019, on the old layout of the Albert Park circuit.

4. WHERE WILL VETTEL FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 13th-15th

CORRECT ANSWER: 16th OR LOWER / DNF

Sebastian Vettel returned to F1 after missing the first two races of the season. Following a crash in Free Practice 3, Vettel qualified only 18th. The Aston Martin driver went on to crash out of the race, recording his first DNF at Albert Park since 2010.

5. WHICH TEAM WILL SCORE MORE POINTS: ALPINE, ALPHATAURI, HAAS OR ALFA ROMEO?

YOUR PREDICTION: ALPINE

CORRECT ANSWER: ALPINE

Alpine were just ahead of Haas in this pole – and the Enstone-based team turned out to be the correct answer. While Haas failed to score, the other three teams each had one driver finish in the top ten. Esteban Ocon scored six points with 7th place for Alpine, Valtteri Bottas came home 8th and Pierre Gasly finished 10th.
