Many had predicted drama at the final race of the season and while there certainly was drama, both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton reached the end of the race. Verstappen won, with Hamilton finishing just behind.

64% of you expected Lewis Hamilton to be crowned World Champion this weekend. For most of the race, it looked like that would be the case – until a late race Safety Car turned the race on its head. At the time of writing, Max Verstappen has been crowned World Champion, subject to various appeals by Mercedes.

Following changes to the Yas Marina track layout, simulations predicted that lap times would be ten seconds faster on the new configuration. Last year, Max Verstappen took pole with a lap time of 1:35.246. In 2021, Verstappen’s pole time was 1:22.109, an improvement of 13.137 seconds.

Ferrari secured third place in the Constructors’ Championship after scoring sixteen points in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Carlos Sainz recorded his fourth podium finish of the year, while Charles Leclerc scored an additional point with tenth place.
