RACE BY RACE: ESTEBAN OCON’S 2022 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2022 Bahrain Grand Prix

For the fifth time in six appearances in Bahrain, Esteban Ocon finished in the points. His seventh place was his best-ever result on the regular layout of Bahrain International Circuit. His only better result here came at the one-off Sakhir Grand Prix in 2020, held on the Outer Loop layout, where he finished as runner-up.

2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

With fifth place in qualifying, Esteban Ocon equalled his best qualifying result from the 2021 season. Ocon went on to finish sixth, recording his second top six result at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

2022 Australian Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon finished in seventh place, recording points for the seventh race in a row. This was the third consecutive Australian Grand Prix in which one of the Enstone-based team’s drivers has finished in seventh place.

2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

A gearbox issue meant that Esteban Ocon was unable to set a second lap time in qualifying. He therefore recorded his first Q1 exit since the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix and qualified on the back row for the first time since the 2017 Chinese Grand Prix. In the race, Ocon finished 14th, failing to score for the first time since the 2021 Mexico City Grand Prix.

2022 Miami Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon was unable to take part in qualifying. He was therefore eliminated in Q1, recording successive Q1 eliminations for the first time since the 2021 Styrian and Austrian Grands Prix. It was the first time Ocon qualified on the back row of the grid at two consecutive races since the 2016 Japanese and United States Grands Prix. After starting 20th on the grid, Ocon picked up four points with an 8th place result. He became the second driver to score from 20th on the grid so far this year, with Alex Albon also having scored from 20th in Australia.

2022 Spanish Grand Prix

With Esteban Ocon eighth and Fernando Alonso ninth, Alpine scored with both cars. It was the first time the Enstone-based team have scored with both cars at the Spanish Grand Prix since 2012, when they were under their Lotus guise.

2022 Monaco Grand Prix

Finishing in 12th place following a five-second time penalty, Esteban Ocon failed to score for only the second time this season.

2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon finished tenth, picking up his first point at Baku City Circuit since 2017. Both Ocon and team-mate Fernando Alonso scored points in the race, making this the first Grand Prix in Azerbaijan in which both of the Enstone-based team’s cars have scored points.

2022 Canadian Grand Prix

After maintaining his 100% Canada Q3 appearance record on Saturday, Esteban Ocon recorded his second top six finish of the season, having also finished sixth at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It equalled his best-ever Canadian Grand Prix result. He last finished sixth in Montreal in 2017.

2022 British Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon failed to reach Q3 at Silverstone for only the second time in his carer. He qualified 15th, which is his worst qualifying result at the track. Ocon was out of the race following contact on the opening lap. This was the first that he has not scored at the circuit and his first DNF of the 2022 season.

2022 Austrian Grand Prix

On his 100th F1 race start, Esteban Ocon finished in fifth place, recording the Enstone-team’s best result in Austria since Alex Wurz finished fifth with Benetton in 1999. This was Ocon’s first top five finish of the season. His last top five result came at last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, in which he finished fourth. In qualifying, Ocon out-qualified team-mate Fernando Alonso for the first time since the Spanish Grand Prix.

2022 French Grand Prix

For the third time in his three French Grand Prix appearances, Esteban Ocon was eliminated in Q2. Ocon gained places on Sunday to finish eighth, recording points at his home race for the first time in his career.

2022 Hungarian Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon equalled his best qualifying result of the season to date and recorded his best-ever Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying result with sixth place. With Fernando Alonso eighth and Ocon ninth in the race, both Alpine drivers scored at the Hungarian Grand Prix for a second year in a row.

2022 Belgian Grand Prix

Despite carrying a back of the grid penalty, Esteban Ocon recorded his best qualifying result of the 2022 season to date with fifth place. With Alonso fifth and Esteban Ocon seventh, this was the first time since 2010 that both of the Enstone team’s drivers have picked up points at the Belgian Grand Prix.

2022 Dutch Grand Prix

Alpine recorded an identical result in the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix to their result in the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix, with Fernando Alonso sixth and Esteban Ocon ninth. This was the fifth consecutive race at which both Alpine drivers have scored. It was the first time that both of the Enstone-based team’s cars have scored at five races in a row since their last title winning year. Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella scored at all 11 races between the 2006 Malaysian and German Grands Prix, when the team was under its Renault guise.

2022 Italian Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon failed to pick up a point for the first time since the British Grand Prix. This was only the second time Ocon has raced at Monza in F1 and failed to score. The only other time he did so was with Manor in 2016.

2022 Singapore Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon qualified only 18th, recording his third Q1 elimination of the year – his first since the Miami Grand Prix. He went on to retire from the race. With Fernando Alonso also retiring, the Enstone-based team recorded their first ever double retirement at the Singapore Grand Prix.

2022 Japanese Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon recorded both his best qualifying result and best race result of the season to date, with fifth place on Saturday and fourth on Sunday. It was his best ever result at Suzuka and his first top four finish since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. This was Ocon’s third consecutive visit to Suzuka in which he picked up points.

2022 United States Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon qualified in 18th place, recording his second Q1 elimination in the last three races. This was the Enstone team’s first Q1 exit at the United States Grand Prix since 2016, as well as the Frenchman’s first Q1 exit at the circuit since 2016, when he drove for Manor.

2022 Mexico City Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon finished in eighth place, scoring in Mexico City for the first time since his fifth place finish in 2017. Saturday in Mexico also marked the first time since 2017 that Ocon reached Q3 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. He was out-qualified by his team-mate in Mexico for the first time since 2016.

2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix

Esteban Ocon reached Q3 at Interlagos for the first time in his career. However, after contact with his team-mate, he lost positions in the Sprint and started only 18th. This was the third time Ocon has started 18th or lower at Interlagos. He made up places in the race though and finished eighth for the second consecutive race weekend. He also finished eighth at last year’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

With seventh place, Esteban Ocon added another six points to his 2022 tally at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He became only the second driver, after Jenson Button in 2015, to score more points than Fernando Alonso during a season as team-mates.
