Your 2021 Mexican GP Predictions: The Results

How many of your pre-race predictions for the 2021 Mexico City Grand Prix were correct? Find out below!

1. WHERE WILL PEREZ FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 2nd or 3rd

CORRECT ANSWER: 2nd or 3rd

After qualifying fourth, Sergio Perez delivered a home podium. He became the first Mexican driver to finish on the podium at the Mexican Grand Prix – as well as the first Mexican to lead laps at their home event.

2. HOW MANY DRIVERS WILL TAKE GRID PENALTIES?

YOUR PREDICTION: 2

CORRECT ANSWER: 4 OR MORE

No fewer than five drivers took grid penalties for the Mexican Grand Prix. Yuki Tsunoda, Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll were all demoted to the back of the grid for exceeding their quota of power unit components. Meanwhile, George Russell picked up a five place grid penalty for a change of gearbox.

3. WILL SAINZ SCORE?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

For the first time in his career, Carlos Sainz scored points at the Mexican Grand Prix with a sixth place finish. This was eleventh consecutive race at which the Spaniard has scored.

4. WILL HAAS BE SLOWEST IN QUALIFYING?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

Haas have never made it out of Q1 at the Mexican Grand Prix – and that’s a fact which did not change in 2021. However, the team did not set the two slowest times in qualifying. Both Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin qualified ahead of Lance Stroll, who crashed out after setting his first competitive lap time in Q1.

5. HOW MANY POINTS WILL ALPINE SCORE?

YOUR PREDICTION: 1-4 POINTS

CORRECT ANSWER: 1-4 POINTS

It wasn’t an ideal Saturday for Alpine at the Mexican Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso was eliminated in Q1, while Esteban Ocon reached Q2 but was forced to start from the back of the grid due to an engine penalty. While Ocon finished thirteenth, Alonso recovered to a points scoring finish. Having started twelfth, Alonso brought home two points with a ninth place result.
