Your 2019 #USGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2019 United States Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. WHERE WILL HAMILTON FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 1st

CORRECT ANSWER: 2nd

In order to win his sixth title, all Lewis Hamilton had to do was finish eighth or higher. After qualifying fifth, Hamilton made up places in the opening laps and eventually ended up leading. Team-mate Valtteri Bottas overtook him in the closing stages, but second place was enough to secure the all-important title!

2. WHICH GRID POSITION WILL WIN?

YOUR PREDICTION: 2nd

CORRECT ANSWER: Pole

For the fourth time, the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas was won from pole position. The driver who started from second, Sebastian Vettel, retired from the race with a suspension failure. It was the first time a driver who started on the front row failed to finish on the podium at this track.

3. WHO’LL QUALIFY FURTHEST UP THE GRID?

YOUR PREDICTION: TORO ROSSO

CORRECT ANSWER: TORO ROSSO

Toro Rosso were the only one of these three teams to reach the final part of qualifying, with Pierre Gasly starting ninth on the grid. Haas were next up from this trio, with Kevin Magnussen qualifying twelfth. Lance Stroll was the best performing Racing Point driver, reaching fourteenth on the grid.

4. WHO’LL BE FIFTH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER THE RACE?

YOUR PREDICTION: RENAULT

CORRECT ANSWER: RENAULT

Renault held a nine point advantage over Toro Rosso and Racing Point heading into the United States Grand Prix. That advantage doubled thanks to a strong result for Renault’s drivers. Daniel Ricciardo finished in sixth, while Nico Hulkenberg finished ninth. Between them, Racing Point and Toro Rosso scored only one point. Sergio Perez was promoted to tenth following a post-race penalty for Sergio Perez.

5. HOW MANY DRIVERS WILL FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 18 or 17

CORRECT ANSWER: 18 or 17

61% of you were right on this poll. There were three retirements from the race. Sebastian Vettel retired with suspension damage, Robert Kubica was out with a hydraulic issue and Kevin Magnussen slithered into the gravel in the closing stages.
