Your 2018 #MonacoGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. How much faster will the pole time be than last year?

YOUR PREDICTION: 0.51 – 0.99 SECONDS FASTER

CORRECT ANSWER: 1 – 1.5 SECONDS FASTER

Thanks to the new Hypersoft tyre, by the end of the second Free Practice session, Daniel Ricciardo’s time was already faster than the 2017 pole time. In the end, Ricciardo’s lap time which secured him pole on Saturday was a massive 1.368 seconds faster than its 2017 counterpart.

2. Which team will be on pole?

YOUR PREDICTION: RED BULL

CORRECT ANSWER: RED BULL

Red Bull were the red hot favourites heading into the weekend, leading 45% of you to back them for pole position. Their pace proved to be unbeatable on Saturday as Daniel Ricciardo took the second pole of his Formula One career.

3. How many drivers will hit the barriers during the race?

YOUR PREDICTION: THREE OR MORE

CORRECT ANSWER: ONE

This year’s Monaco Grand Prix wasn’t quite the crash-fest we sometimes see on the streets of Monte Carlo. Max Verstappen’s practice smash was the biggest crash of the weekend. Only one driver hit the barriers during the Grand Prix. That was Charles Leclerc, who slithered into the barrier at the exit of the tunnel after the brakes on his Sauber failed late on in the race.

4. Where will Charles Leclerc finish his first home Grand Prix?

YOUR PREDICTION: 9th or 10th

CORRECT ANSWER: DNF

After qualifying in fourteenth for a third race in a row, local man Charles Leclerc ran strongly for much of the race just outside of the points. Eight laps from the end, Leclerc suffered a brake failure and collided with the back of Brendon Hartley’s Toro Rosso, putting both cars out of the race. While he did not make the end of the race, he was classified in eighteenth place as he finished more than 90% of the race.

5. How many Red Bull drivers will finish on the podium?

YOUR PREDICTION: JUST RICCIARDO

CORRECT ANSWER: JUST RICCIARDO

Max Verstappen ruined his chances of taking a podium by crashing in the final practice session. Verstappen made up eleven places through the race to pick up a handful of points, while his team-mate took victory and finished on the Monaco podium for the fourth time in five races.
