Your 2018 #BelgianGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. Will Force India move up the order?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

It was a fantastic debut race for Racing Point Force India. As a result of being a new entry, the team lost all the points they had scored so far in 2018 and slipped to last place in the Constructors’ Championship. 86% of you backed the team to overtake Williams for ninth after the Belgian Grand Prix, and they duly did. After Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez qualified a fantastic third and fourth on the grid, both scored points in the race with the Mexican coming home fifth and the Frenchman coming home sixth. The team now have eighteen points, fourteen ahead of Williams, and just a single point behind Sauber, who will surely be their target next weekend.

2. What will the weather be like?

YOUR PREDICTION: WET QUALI, DRY RACE

CORRECT ANSWER: WET QUALI, DRY RACE

30% of you correctly predicted the weather for the weekend. The rain came in the closing stages of qualifying, leading to a highly entertaining Q3, while it stayed dry during the Grand Prix on Sunday.

3. Who’ll score more points – Ferrari or Mercedes?

YOUR PREDICTION: FERRARI

CORRECT ANSWER: MERCEDES

It was Mercedes who scored the most points in Belgium. Sebastian Vettel mat have led home Lewis Hamilton, but Valttteri Bottas’ recovery drive to fourth place on a day when Kimi Raikkonen retired from the Grand Prix ensured Mercedes would take home five more points than Ferrari. Mercedes now lead Ferrari by fifteen points in the Constructors’ Championship

4. Where will the race be won from?

YOUR PREDICTION: 2nd

CORRECT ANSWER: 2nd

It was a close poll, but the majority of you correctly predicted the race would be won from second on the grid. That means only four of the last eighteen races at the track haven’t been won from the front row.

5. Any more driver announcements?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

Perhaps as a result of Force India’s new ownership, most of you expected more 2019 driver announcements this weekend. There were no announcements, though Esteban Ocon all but confirmed he’d be out of a drive at Force India before too long. Whether or not there’ll be a driver shuffle before next weekend’s Italian Grand Prix remains to be seen.
