RACE BY RACE: NYCK DE VRIES 2023 F1 SEASON IN STATISTICS

2023 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

With Nyck de Vries out in Q1 at the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix, and Yuki Tsunoda out in Q2, this was the first time since the 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix that neither of the Red Bull junior team’s drivers progressed to Q3 in Bahrain. With neither Tsunoda nor Nyck de Vries scoring points, this was also the first time since the 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix that the Red Bull junior team failed to score at Bahrain International Circuit.

2023 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

While Yuki Tsunoda finished 11th in the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Nyck de Vries finished in 14th place. That made 2023 the first time that AlphaTauri failed to pick up any points at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

2023 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

Crashing out with fellow rookie Logan Sargeant at the 2023 Australian Grand Prix’s final standing restart, Nyck de Vries recorded the first retirement of his Formula 1 career.

2023 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

It may have been only his fourth start, but at the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Nyck de Vries moved into the top ten of Dutch drivers who’ve made the most Formula 1 starts. It was a weekend to forget for the Dutchman. After crashing out in qualifying, De Vries crashed out of the Grand Prix too.

Having also retired from the Australian Grand Prix, this was De Vries’ second consecutive retirement. De Vries is now in an unlucky group of four drivers who’ve retired on every appearance at Baku City Circuit.

2023 MIAMI GRAND PRIX

Nyck De Vries was eliminated in Q2 at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix, qualifying in 15th. De Vries equalled his best qualifying result of the season so far. He also qualified 15th at the Australian Grand Prix.

2023 MONACO GRAND PRIX

Nyck de Vries qualified in 12th place, recording the best qualifying result of his career to date. It bettered the 13th place in which he qualified on his one-off appearance with Williams at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix.

De Vries finished the race where he started, recording his best result of the 2023 season to date. It marked the first time he finished ahead of his team-mate Yuki Tsunoda this year.

2023 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

With Nyck De Vries also finishing outside of the points in 14th and Yuki Tsunoda also failing to pick up any points, this was only the second time in the last nine Catalunya races that the Red Bull junior team failed to score any points.

2023 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX

With Yuki Tsunoda 14th and Nyck de Vries 18th, AlphaTauri failed to score any points for the fourth consecutive Grand Prix. This is team’s longest point-less streak since the four races between the 2022 British and Hungarian Grands Prix.

2023 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

Nyck de Vries’ 20th place marked the first back row qualification for a Red Bull junior team driver at the Red Bull Ring since Brendon Hartley in 2018. 20th equals the team’s worst qualifying position at the track, with Daniil Kvyat having also qualified 20th for the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix.

Finishing 17th in the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix, de Vries finished ahead of team-mate Yuki Tsunoda for the second time this year. As a result of the race, de Vries dropped to 20th and last in the Drivers’ Championship.

2023 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

AlphaTauri were the only team to record a double Q1 exit at the 2023 British Grand Prix. With both Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries out in Q1, this is the first time that the Red Bull junior team has recorded double Q1 exits at three consecutive races since the 2009 Turkish, British and German Grands Prix. This was the team’s first double Q1 elimination at the British Grand Prix since 2011.

The 2023 British Grand Prix turned out to be De Vries’ last Formula 1 appearance with AlphaTauri. Two days after the Silverstone race, the team announced he would be replaced by Daniel Ricciardo for the remainder of the season.
