McLaren reveal the MCL35

McLaren have revealed the MCL35 in a launch event at the McLaren Technology Centre.

McLaren have unveiled their 2020 challenger, the MCL35, in a special event at their Woking base. The new car’s livery sticks to the familiar papaya and blue colours used in recent seasons. This is the first McLaren car to have a matte finish. McLaren’s CEO Zak Brown spoke of McLaren’s aim to continue their move back towards the front of the grid:

“I’m immensely proud of the entire team today. Last season we delivered what we set out to do – secure a hard-fought fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. Our positive on-track momentum and the renewed energy in the team has seen us grow our valued partner family and global fan base and we look forward to a hugely competitive season. While we are enjoying going racing again, we remain measured and focused, and all of us at McLaren keep pushing fearlessly forward.”

McLaren have retained Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris’ services for 2020. Last season McLaren marched to fourth in the Constructors’ Championship; their best result since 2012. Sainz also scored the team’s first podium in over five years with an impressive third place finish from last on the grid at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Read more: McLaren’s 2019 Season in Stats.

This will  be McLaren’s last year with Renault power. In 2021, they will revert to using Mercedes engines. The McLaren Mercedes partnership was highly successful in the late 1990s and early 2000s, bringing the team three Drivers’ Championships and McLaren’s most recent Constructors’ Championship win in 1998.
