AlphaTauri have shared the first images of their 2021 F1 car – the AT02.

Red Bull junior team AlphaTauri have launched their 2021 F1 challenger. The AT02 was unveiled online on Friday morning. This will be the team’s final season with a Honda-badged engine. The Japanese manufacturer will leave F1 at the end of the 2021 season – but Red Bull last week announced that they will continue to use Honda’s F1 power unit technology from 2022 onwards, under a new company named Red Bull Powertrains Limited.

AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost is keen for his team to be at the top of the midfield pack in 2021:

“In 2020 Scuderia AlphaTauri was a midfield team, we were fighting successfully against the other teams like McLaren, Renault and Racing Point but our target for this year is to consistently be at the top of this midfield pack and to improve further. To achieve this, we have to avoid reliability issues and finish all races in the points. This can only happen if we do not make any mistakes, so we have to be 100% concentrated on our job, race after race, on and off the track, because our competitors are hard to fight.”

2021 will be AlphaTauri’s sophomore season in Formula 1, with the former Toro Rosso team having re-branded ahead of last season. 2020 was a fruitful year for the Red Bull junior team. Pierre Gasly claimed the team’s second ever win at Monza and the team scored a record 107 points. Despite that, they finished one position lower than in 2019, with seventh in the Constructors’ Championship.

Italian Grand Prix winner Gasly remains with the team in 2021 and will be joined by rookie Yuki Tsunoda. The highly-rated Japanese driver finished third in last year’s F2 Championship, recording three victories. He joins the grid as the first driver born in the 2000s to race in F1 as well as the shortest driver to race in the sport this millennium.
