A Statistic For Every Driver: 2020 British GP

The first race with no Perez entry since 2010, a disappointing DNS for Hulkenberg and Latifi jumps ahead of Raikkonen in the championship by the slimmest of margins. Here is a statistic from each driver’s 2020 British Grand Prix weekend!

?? Lewis Hamilton

Despite suffering a puncture on the final lap, Lewis Hamilton recorded his 87th career victory at the 2020 British Grand Prix. It was his seventh win at Silverstone, setting a new record for most driver wins at their home Grand Prix. Hamilton is the first driver to have taken ten podium finishes at the British Grand Prix and is the first driver to have led 300 laps of the Silverstone circuit. Having led every lap of the race, Hamilton sets a new record for most lights to flag victories in Formula 1. Ayrton Senna was the previous record holder, setting the record in 1991, having led nineteen races from start to finish.

?? Valtteri Bottas

Qualifying in second place, Valtteri Bottas equalled Lewis Hamilton’s record of most consecutive Q3 appearances. Bottas has reached Q3 in all of the last 66 races, and has not failed to qualify in the top ten since joining Mercedes in 2017. The 2020 British Grand Prix marked the first time that Bottas finished a race in a position outside of the points since he finished eleventh at the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix. It was also the first time that the driver starting second on the grid at Silverstone has failed to score since Mark Webber in 2008.

?? Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel finished only tenth in the 2020 British Grand Prix. It means that his Silverstone win in 2018 is his only top six finish at the track in the last five seasons.

?? Charles Leclerc

Charles Leclerc finished in third place at the 2020 British Grand Prix, recording his twelfth visit to the podium. He ties with the career podium tallies of Stefan Johansson and Robert Kubica. It was Ferrari’s 45th podium finish at the Silverstone circuit.

?? Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen finished as runner-up in the 2020 British Grand Prix, scoring his 34th podium finish and a sixth podium from the last seven races. With second place and a point for fastest lap, Verstappen scored nineteen points and took his total career points to exactly 1,000. He is only the twelfth driver in F1 history to have scored 1,000 points.

?? Alex Albon

Alex Albon dropped out in Q2 at the 2020 British Grand Prix, recording Red Bull’s first failure to qualify in the top ten at the British Grand Prix since Daniel Ricciardo was eliminated in Q1 in 2017. In the race, he recorded his best Silverstone result with eighth place.

?? Carlos Sainz

Finishing thirteenth after a late-race puncture, Carlos Sainz ended a six race streak of finishing in the points. The last time he failed to finish in the top ten was at the 2019 Mexico Grand Prix, where he also finished thirteenth.

?? Lando Norris

Lando Norris scored on home soil for the first time in his career, recording his third top five finish in the last four races. Norris’ fifth place was McLaren’s best result at the British Grand Prix since Jenson Button finished in fourth place in 2014, while his qualifying result was also the team’s best since Button in 2014.

?? Daniel Ricciardo

With fourth place at the 2020 British Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo equals his best result at Renault. He also finished fourth in the 2019 Italian Grand Prix. It was the team’s fifth top five finish since their return to the sport in 2016.

?? Esteban Ocon

Esteban Ocon finished sixth at the 2020 British Grand Prix, scoring his first top six finish since the 2018 Italian Grand Prix. It is his best ever result at Silverstone.

?? Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez was forced to miss the 2020 British Grand Prix after testing positive for COVID-19. It means that his streak of nine consecutive points-scoring races – the second longest such streak of his career – came to an end. This was the first race which Perez did not start since the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix, the first race for which he did not qualify since the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix and the first race weekend which he played no part in since the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

?? Nico Hulkenberg

Nico Hulkenberg returned to Formula 1 as a result of Sergio Perez testing positive for COVID-19. He was due to make his 178th start, but failed to make the start due to mechanical issues. It was the third DNS of his career, after failing to start at the 2013 Australian Grand Prix and the 2015 Belgian Grand Prix. Hulkenberg became the first driver to record a DNS since Kimi Raikkonen at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix, and the fifteenth driver to record a DNS in F1’s 54 visits to Silverstone.

?? Lance Stroll

Finishing in ninth place at the 2020 British Grand Prix, Lance Stroll scored points for a third consecutive race. It’s only the third time in his career that he has scored on three successive outings – the first time he has done so since the 2017 Italian, Singapore and Malaysian Grands Prix. This was also the first time in his career that Stroll has scored points at the British Grand Prix.

?? Daniil Kvyat

For the first time in his six British Grand Prix appearances, Daniil Kvyat failed to finish. It was also only the second time that the Russian driver has failed to score at Silverstone.

?? Pierre Gasly

With seventh place, Pierre Gasly recorded AlphaTauri (formerly Toro Rosso)’s best ever British Grand Prix result. Their previous best Silverstone finish was eighth, recorded by Daniel Ricciardo in 2013 and Carlos Sainz in 2016.

?? Kimi Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen was the only driver to be lapped at the 2020 British Grand Prix, but he did make some history on a challenging afternoon. This was Raikkonen’s 246th race finish, meaning that he has now reached the chequered flag at more races than any other driver in Formula 1 history. He also became the first driver to have finished a race at Silverstone on sixteen occasions, surpassing the tally of fifteen finishes recorded by Fernando Alonso and Rubens Barrichello. In addition, he became the fourth driver to have raced over 900 laps of the Silverstone circuit, with his total laps raced here now standing at 935. Only Barrichello has raced more laps of Silverstone than Raikkonen (1,049).

?? Antonio Giovinazzi

Antonio Giovinazzi finished fourteenth for the fifth time in nine races. The 2020 British Grand Prix is the first time that the Italian has finished a Formula 1 race at Silverstone, having retired from the 2019 event.

?? Romain Grosjean

From his nine appearances at Silverstone, the 2020 British Grand Prix was the first time that Romain Grosjean has been eliminated in Q1 at the circuit. Of the four races that he has finished here, sixteenth is his lowest finishing position.

?? Kevin Magnussen

For a second year in a row, Kevin Magnussen retired as a result of contact in the early stages of the British Grand Prix. He becomes the third driver to be the first retirement at Silverstone in two consecutive years, after Eddie Irvine in 1994 & 1995 and Mark Webber in 2006 & 2007.

?? George Russell

George Russell progressed to Q2 and qualified in fifteenth place – though he would later be demoted five places on the grid, picking up a penalty for not respecting yellow flags. With Russell in Q2, this is the first time that Williams have had at least one car progress to Q2 at three consecutive races since the six races between the 2017 Malaysia Grand Prix and the 2018 Australian Grand Prix. Moving from last on the grid to twelfth at the end of the race, Russell gained the most positions of any driver at the 2020 British Grand Prix and the most in his career. With twelfth place, the British driver equalled his second best ever result.

?? Nicholas Latifi

Nicholas Latifi moves ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the Drivers’ Championship after the 2020 British Grand Prix. In the first four races of the 2020 season, the two drivers have each recorded eleventh, fifteenth and seventeenth place finishes – but Latifi is ahead as he finished nineteenth at the Hungarian Grand Prix, while Raikkonen retired from the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix.
