Mercedes have finished on the Canadian Grand Prix podium in every year since 2013, Red Bull have recorded only two retirements at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and McLaren have not scored here since 2014. Here’s everything you need to know about each team’s history at the Canadian Grand Prix!
RED BULL

Red Bull have won three times at the Canadian Grand Prix, with Sebastian Vettel in 2013, Daniel Ricciardo in 2014 and Max Verstappen in 2022. 2011 and 2014 are the only seasons in which both Red Bull drivers have finished on the podium at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with the team yet to record a 1-2 finish at the track.
David Coulthard in 2007, Max Verstappen in 2017 and Sergio Perez in 2022 are the only Red Bull drivers to have recorded non-finishes at the Canadian Grand Prix, each as a result of mechanical issues. Aside from the non-finishes, Daniel Ricciardo’s 13th place finish in 2015 is the only other time that a Red Bull driver has failed to score at the track in the last 11 races at the track.
Red Bull have scored four pole positions in Montreal. The first three – in 2011, 2012 and 2013 – were all courtesy of Sebastian Vettel, while Max Verstappen secured the team’s fourth pole at the track in 2022. Mark Webber supplied the team’s only other front row qualifying position at the track in 2010.
In each of the last two Canadian races, a Red Bull driver has been eliminated in Q2. In 2019, Max Verstappen became the first Red Bull driver to be eliminated in Q2 at the Canadian Grand Prix since 2008 while Sergio Perez exited in Q2 in 2022. The team has never recorded a Q1 elimination at the track.
FERRARI
WINS: 11, POLES: 8, PODIUMS: 34 | 2022 RESULT: SAINZ 2nd, LECLERC 5th
In 2018, Ferrari won their first Canadian Grand Prix since 2004. Sebastian Vettel came close to scoring a back-to-back win for the team in 2019, but a time penalty saw him finish second. Nevertheless, 2019 was the first time that both Ferrari drivers finished on the podium in Montreal since 2005.
2004 is one of three times Ferrari have recorded 1-2 finishes at the circuit, the other times being in 1985 and 2000. The team won the first race on the Ile Notre Dame island, with Gilles Villeneuve taking his first F1 victory at the circuit which is now named in his honour.
The team has scored in every race at the track since 1997, with 1996 being their most recent double non-finish here. Ferrari haven’t recorded a DNF in Montreal since Fernando Alonso failed to finish the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix.

Ferrari have taken eight poles at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, including in two of the last three races here. The team has never locked-out the front row at this track. 2019’s 1-3 qualifying result equalled their best ever at the circuit, from 2000.
Felipe Massa’s Q2 exit in 2013, Sebastian Vettel’s Q1 elimination in 2015 and Charles Leclerc’s Q2 exit in 2022 are the only times a Ferrari driver has failed to qualify in the top ten since the knockout system was introduced in 2006. Before that, there were only nine other occasions where a Ferrari driver failed to qualify in the top ten. 1980, 1981 and 1986 are the only years where neither Ferrari driver qualified in the top ten.

Aside from Hamilton’s retirement in 2014, a Mercedes driver hasn’t finished outside of the top five at the circuit since 2012.
Michael Schumacher’s Q2 exit in 2010 is the only time a Mercedes driver has failed to qualify in the top ten for the Canadian Grand Prix. The team locked out the front row between 2014 and 2016. With Lewis Hamilton qualifying fourth and George Russell eighth in 2022, it was the first time no Mercedes drivers qualified on the front row at the Canadian Grand Prix since 2013.

Alonso recorded the team’s first front row lockout here since 2006 in 2022, qualifying in second place in a damp qualifying session.
Since the knockout qualifying system was introduced there have been only six occasions that both of the team’s cars have qualified in the top ten in Montreal, three of those being in the last three races.

WINS: 9, POLES: 8, PODIUMS: 20 | 2022 RESULT: RICCIARDO 11th, NORRIS 15th

ALFA ROMEO
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2022 RESULT: BOTTAS 7th, ZHOU 8th
The former Sauber team scored their only F1 victory so far at the Canadian Grand Prix in 2007 with Robert Kubica. It was a 1-2 finish for the team, with Nick Heidfeld finishing as runner-up – the same position in which he’d finished the year before. Sergio Perez recorded the team’s only other podium finish at the circuit in 2012 with third place.
Since then, Sauber scored only one point at the track between 2013 and 2019. That was in 2018, when Charles Leclerc finished tenth. In 2022, both Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu picked up points for Alfa Romeo in the team’s first double points appearance in Canada since 2012. Despite their low points rate in recent years, the team haven’t recorded a DNF in Canada since 2014.
Robert Kubica’s second place on the grid for the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix is the only time a Sauber driver has qualified on the front row at the Canadian Grand Prix, while Nick Heidfeld’s third place in qualifying in 2007 is he only other time a Sauber driver has qualified in the top six here.
In 2022, Valtteri Bottas became the team’s first driver to reach Q3 at the Canadian Grand Prix since 2008. Charles Leclerc, Antonio Giovinazzi and Zhou Guanyu’s Q2 appearances in 2018, 2019 and 2022 respectively are the only times that the team has made it out of Q1 in the last five Montreal races.
ASTON MARTIN

HAAS
WINS: 0, POLES: 0, PODIUMS: 0 | 2022 RESULT: MAGNUSSEN 17th, SCHUMACHER DNF
In 2022, Mick Schumacher recorded the Haas team’s first retirement at the Canadian Grand Prix. The team has scored only one point from their five visits here so far. Their point came courtesy of Romain Grosjean, who finished tenth in 2017. The team’s worst result aside from their 2022 DNF is 17th, which is where Kevin Magnussen finished in 2019.
Haas recorded their first double Q3 appearance in Canada in 2022. Kevin Magnussen recorded the team’s best qualifying result at the track with fifth place, while Mick Schumacher qualified sixth.
Haas qualified in the top ten at the Canadian Grand Prix for the first time in 2019. Ironically, after getting through to Q3, Kevin Magnussen crashed at the end of Q2 meaning he was unable to set a lap in the session and had to start from the pit lane. It also prevented Romain Grosjean from setting a faster lap time.
Haas have recorded two Q1 exits here: Magnussen was out in Q1 in 2017, while Grosjean failed to set a time in 2018 after an engine blow-up in the pit-lane at the start of qualifying.
