Max Verstappen set the fastest qualifying time in Friday’s traditional qualifying hour. Charles Leclerc took the lead at the start of Saturday’s Sprint, but tyre degradation for the Ferrari driver put Verstappen in a position to overtake and secure pole position for the Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso started fifth for the F1 Sprint on Saturday afternoon. He failed to gain any positions in the race, falling four places down the order to ninth. He was passed by Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo and Valtteri Bottas.
