Esteban Ocon’s 2021 F1 season in statistics

Esteban Ocon took his maiden victory at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix and was a match for experienced team-mate Fernando Alonso. Here’s Ocon’s 2021 Formula 1 season in statistics!

A STATISTIC FROM EVERY GRAND PRIX

2021 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon qualified only sixteenth in the 2021 season-opener. It was his first Q1 elimination since the 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix and Team Enstone’s first Q1 exit since Daniel Ricciardo qualified sixteenth at the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix. Finishing the race in thirteenth place, this was the first time that Ocon failed to score in any of his five appearances in Bahrain.

2021 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX

With ninth place in qualifying, Esteban Ocon reached Q3 for the first time since the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. The Frenchman finished where he started – making this the third time in the last six races that he has finished in ninth place.

2021 PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon qualified in sixth place at the Portuguese Grand Prix, recording his best qualifying result since the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix. This was the first time Ocon has out-qualified his team-mate at two successive races since the 2018 United States and Mexican Grands Prix. Ocon went on to finish the race in seventh place – his best result since his podium finish at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.

2021 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

For the first time in his career, Esteban Ocon qualified in the top six for a second consecutive race. Ocon’s fifth place was the best qualifying result for Team Enstone at the Spanish Grand Prix since Romain Grosjean also qualified fifth for Lotus in 2014. The Frenchman went on to finish in ninth place, recording his first points at the Spanish Grand Prix since 2017. It was the first time a driver for the Enstone team scored at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya since Carlos Sainz finished seventh in 2018.

2021 MONACO GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon finished ninth in the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix, scoring in the principality for the second time in his career. Ocon is yet to finish behind his team-mate in any of the three Monaco races which he has completed.

2021 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Qualifying in twelfth place, Esteban Ocon failed to reach Q3 at Baku City Circuit for the first time. He was less lucky in the race, retiring after only three laps following an engine issue. He recorded his first retirement since the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Ocon’s DNF makes 2021 the fourth Azerbaijan Grand Prix in a row in which at least one of Team Enstone’s drivers has retired.

2021 FRENCH GRAND PRIX

On his second home Grand Prix appearance, Esteban Ocon qualified in eleventh place. He also qualified eleventh on his first home race appearance in 2018. He finished fourteenth in the race, making it past the first lap at his home race for the first time.

2021 STYRIAN GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon qualified in seventeenth position, recording the Enstone team’s first Q1 exit at the Red Bull Ring since Jolyon Palmer qualified sixteenth for Renault in 2017. Ocon recorded Alpine’s third Q1 exit of the season. It was his second Q1 elimination of the season and the first time that he has failed to reach Q2 at this circuit.

2021 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon, who qualified seventeenth, made the 2021 Styrian and Austrian Grands Prix the first time since the 2019 Spanish and Azerbaijan Grands Prix that Team Enstone have recorded Q1 exits at consecutive races. Ocon was the only driver to retire from the race. He was out on the first lap. This was Ocon’s second retirement of the year. It makes the Austrian Grand Prix the fourth race in a row at which the Frenchman failed to score. Ocon was the first driver to retire on the first lap at the Red Bull Ring since Max Verstappen in 2017.

2021 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon finished in ninth place, scoring for the first time since the Monaco Grand Prix. This was Ocon’s fourth ninth place finish of the season. The Frenchman maintains his 100% points-scoring rate at Silverstone.

2021 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon became the 111th different driver to win a World Championship Formula 1 race. Prior to Sunday, Ocon had scored only once previously at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with a ninth place finish in 2017. Ocon is the first driver to win from eighth on the grid since Fernando Alonso at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix. The Frenchman is the eighteenth driver to win at the Hungarian Grand Prix and the fifth different driver to take his maiden win here. Ocon is the first French driver to win with a French team using a French engine since Alain Prost, who won for Renault at the 1983 Austrian Grand Prix.

2021 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon continued his points-scoring streak at the Belgian Grand Prix, having scored on four of his five appearances at the circuit on which he made his Formula 1 debut.

2021 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon recorded his fifth ninth place finish of the 2021 season at the Dutch Grand Prix. Scoring for a fourth consecutive race, Ocon equalled his longest points-scoring streak of the year.

2021 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon finished the Italian Grand Prix in tenth place, scoring points for the fifth consecutive race. This is his longest points-scoring streak since the 2017 season. Ocon has scored on four of his five Italian Grand Prix appearances.

2021 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon qualified in tenth place at the Russian Grand Prix, maintaining his 100% Q3 appearance record at the event. But Ocon’s 100% points scoring record in Russia came to an end on Sunday. Ocon finished only fourteenth in the Russian Grand Prix – the first time he has failed to score since his retirement at the Austrian Grand Prix. It ended his longest points-scoring streak since 2017.

2021 TURKISH GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon finished in tenth place, completing the entire race on just a single set of tyres. It was the first time that a driver completed a race distance without stopping for tyres or refuelling since Mika Salo did so at the 1997 Monaco Grand Prix.

2021 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon was the second driver to retire from the United States Grand Prix. He recorded his third retirement of the season – his first since the Austrian Grand Prix. With both Ocon and team-mate Fernando Alonso retiring, this was the first time since the Bahrain Grand Prix that Alpine failed to score. It was also the team’s first double DNF since the 2019 German Grand Prix, when they were in their Renault guise.

2021 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

A grid penalty for Esteban Ocon at the Mexican Grand Prix saw him start from the back row of the grid for the first time since the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix, when he was racing with the Manor team.

2021 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

Missing out on Q3 by just 0.052 seconds, Esteban Ocon maintained his record of never reaching Q3 on any of his Brazilian Grand Prix appearances. Ocon went on to finish eighth, recording points in Brazil for the first time in his career.

2021 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon reached Q3 for the first time since the Turkish Grand Prix and went on to finish the race in fifth place. It was his best result since his victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. This was also the first time both Alpine cars have finished in the top five since the Budapest race.

2021 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX

After qualifying in ninth place for a third consecutive race, Esteban Ocon narrowly missed out on a podium finish after being passed on the line by Valtteri Bottas. Ocon led a lap of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It was the first time he’s led a race since winning the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Alpine driver has now finished in the top five at each of the last two races.

2021 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Esteban Ocon reached Q3 in Abu Dhabi for the first time since 2018. He qualified in ninth place for the fourth consecutive race.
