A STATISTIC FROM EVERY GRAND PRIX

2021 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris became the 146th driver to record multiple podium finishes in Formula 1, with his third place at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix also marking the 700th podium result for a British driver. With both Norris and Hamilton on the podium, this was the first time since the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix that two British drivers have shared a podium result.

2021 PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX

Qualifying in seventh for the third time in the first three races of 2021, Lando Norris out-qualified team-mate Daniel Ricciardo for the first time. Norris went on to finish the race in fifth place, recording a fourth consecutive top five finish. It’s the first time in his F1 career that Norris has finished in the top five at four consecutive events.

2021 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris set the fastest time in Q1 at the Spanish Grand Prix. It was the first time a McLaren driver has been fastest in a qualifying session since Norris himself was fastest in Q1 at the 2019 United States Grand Prix. With ninth place, Norris went on to record his worst qualifying position of the season to date. It was the first time this year he has not qualified in seventh place. It was also the worst qualifying position for the driver who was fastest in Q1 since Charles Leclerc qualified tenth at the 2019 German Grand Prix. Norris finished the race in eighth place and was lapped for the first time this season.

2021 MONACO GRAND PRIX

After recording McLaren’s best Monaco Grand Prix qualifying result since 2012, Lando Norris went on to finish on the podium. Norris recorded his third podium finish, equalling the best result of his career to date. It was McLaren’s first podium in Monaco since Jenson Button finished in the top three in 2011.

2021 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris recorded McLaren’s best-ever Azerbaijan qualifying result with sixth place, but was demoted to ninth on the grid following a red flag infringement. In the race, Norris scored points for the eleventh consecutive race. Finishing in fifth, Norris has now finished in the top five in five of the first six races of the season.

2021 FRENCH GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris finished in fifth place at the French Grand Prix, marking his seventh top five finish in the last eight races.

2021 STYRIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris started in the top three on the grid for the second time in his career, having previously done so at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix. Having started third, Norris finished in fifth place. It marked the first time that Norris has lost positions from where he started in 2021. This was Norris’ fourth consecutive top five finish. The Spanish Grand Prix remains the only race this year at which Norris has not finished in the top five.

2021 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

Missing out on pole by just 0.048 seconds, Lando Norris recorded the first front row qualification of his Formula 1 career. Kimi Raikkonen was the last McLaren driver to qualify on the front row in Austria, doing so in 2003. Norris has never failed to qualify inside the top six in Austria. It was McLaren’s first front row start since the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix. On Sunday, Norris recorded his fourth podium finish in Formula 1, becoming the 105th driver to record four or more podiums. Norris has now scored more points in the first nine races in 2021 than he did in the entirety of the 2020 season. Norris is the 25th driver to record multiple podium finishes in Austria.

2021 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

At the British Grand Prix, Lando Norris recorded his sixth consecutive top five finish. It was also the fifteenth consecutive race in which the British driver has scored. Impressively, that’s a new record for the most consecutive points-scoring appearances for a McLaren driver in Formula 1.

2021 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris’ retirement at the Hungarian Grand Prix meant that his 15-race points-scoring streak – the longest ever for a McLaren driver – came to an end. This was Norris’, and McLaren’s, first retirement since the 2020 Eifel Grand Prix.

2021 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris set the fastest lap time in both Q1 and Q2 at the Belgian Grand Prix, before crashing out at the start of Q3. It’s the first time that the driver who set the fastest time in Q1 and Q2 has gone on to qualify as low as tenth since Fernando Alonso did so at the 2012 Italian Grand Prix.

2021 DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris’ tenth place in the Dutch Grand Prix marked the first time that the driver starting thirteenth at Zandvoort has scored points since Chris Amon finished fifth in the 1964 Dutch Grand Prix. Norris qualified thirteenth having missed out on Q3 for the first time since the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.

2021 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

With Lando Norris finishing second, the 2021 Italian Grand Prix was McLaren’s first 1-2 result since the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix. Norris recorded his fifth podium finish in Formula 1 and the best result of his career to date. Norris also led a lap – the first time he has done so, becoming the 179th driver to lead a lap in World Championship history.

2021 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris recorded the first pole position of his Formula 1 career at the Russian Grand Prix. Norris became the 102nd different driver to take pole position in World Championship history and the eighteenth British driver to do so. He became the fifth youngest polesitter in F1 history, recording McLaren’s first pole since the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris led the majority of the Russian Grand Prix and came close to winning the race until the weather conditions changed. He finished the race in seventh, which – although a disappointing result – is still his best-ever Russian Grand Prix finishing position. This was the ninth World Championship Grand Prix in which the polesitter has finished in seventh place. It last happened at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix.

2021 TURKISH GRAND PRIX

The driver starting seventh had suffered poor luck in recent races in the 2021 season, having not scored in any of the five previous races. Lando Norris turned that around in Turkey though. He started where he finished, in seventh. It was the first time the grid slot scored since the British Grand Prix.

2021 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris finished eighth in the United States Grand Prix, maintaining his 100% points scoring record at COTA. He finished seventh on his first visit here in 2019.

2021 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris picked up a single point with tenth place at the Mexican Grand Prix. This was only the third time that a McLaren driver has scored in Mexico since the sport’s return to the track. The team’s tally of points scored here since 2015 now stands at six.

2021 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris qualified sixth for the Brazilian Grand Prix, recording McLaren’s best qualifying result at Interlagos since Jenson Button qualified fifth in 2014. For the second race in a row, Norris finished tenth.

2021 QATAR GRAND PRIX

Lando Norris scored for an eighth consecutive race, extending the second-longest scoring streak of his career to date. Norris has not finished in the top six since his podium at the Italian Grand Prix.
