A STATISTIC FROM EVERY GRAND PRIX
2021 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc qualified in fourth place for the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix, already equalling Ferrari’s best qualifying result of the 2020 season. It was the fourth time from the previous eight races that Leclerc qualified in fourth place. Leclerc finished the race in sixth, scoring his first points since the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix.
2021 EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX
After qualifying in fourth place for the fifth time in the last nine races, Leclerc finished the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in the same position as he started. It was his best result since the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix.
2021 PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc finished in the top six for a third consecutive race. Leclerc was one of four drivers to have finished in the top six at all three races up to this point in 2021. The other drivers to have done so were Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
2021 SPANISH GRAND PRIX
Qualifying in fourth place, Charles Leclerc recorded his best Spanish Grand Prix qualifying result to date. His previous best was fifth place in 2019. Leclerc went on to finish where he started, in fourth place. With the top three also finishing in the order they started, 2021 is only the second time – after 2015 – that all of the top four cars have finished in the order they started at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Leclerc is one of only three drivers – along with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen – to finish in the top six at all of the four opening races of the 2021 season.
2021 MONACO GRAND PRIX
Despite crashing and bringing out the red flags at the end of qualifying, Charles Leclerc took pole position for his home race. It was the first time a Monegasque driver has taken pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix since Louis Chiron did so in 1936. But Leclerc failed to start the race. That made the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix only the fifth in F1 history in which the polesitter did not start. The last time that the polesitter failed to start was at the 2005 United States Grand Prix, when Jarno Trulli pulled into the pits at the end of the formation lap.
2021 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX
For a second race weekend in a row, Charles Leclerc took pole position. It was the ninth pole position of his career and he became the fifth driver to take pole in the five races at Baku City Circuit. Leclerc had never previously qualified above tenth place at the track. The Ferrari driver finished in fourth place. It was his third fourth place finish of the 2021 season. The last time that the polesitter finished in fourth place was the 2019 Mexican Grand Prix – a race for which Leclerc was also on pole.
2021 FRENCH GRAND PRIX
With Charles Leclerc finishing sixteenth, the 2021 French Grand Prix was the first race in 2021 in which the driver starting seventh failed to score. Fourth and sixth became the only grid slots to have scored at every race up to this point in the season.
2021 STYRIAN GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc was voted Driver of the Day after a comeback drive to seventh place. This was the first time that Leclerc has finished a race in Austria in a position behind his team-mate.
2021 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc finished behind his team-mate for the third race in a row. Leclerc has not finished behind his team-mate for three consecutive rounds at which both he and his team-mate have finished since the three races between the 2019 Chinese and Spanish Grands Prix.
2021 BRITISH GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc led 49 laps of the 2021 British Grand Prix, but failed to win the race. It was the fifth time from ten races in 2021 that the driver who led the most laps of the race did not take victory. This was Leclerc’s first podium finish since last year’s British Grand Prix. Leclerc became the first Ferrari driver to finish as runner-up at Silverstone since Fernando Alonso in 2012. The team recorded seven podium finishes in the interim period, but no second place finishes.
2021 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc’s retirement from the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix marked the first time in 2021 that the driver starting seventh on the grid failed to finish the race.
2021 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc recorded his third Belgian Grand Prix Q2 exit from his four appearances at the event. Despite missing out on Q3 for only the second time this year, Leclerc finished eighth in the race. His only other points-scoring race at the track is the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix, at which he took his maiden win.
2021 DUTCH GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc set the fastest time in Q1 at the Dutch Grand Prix. It was the first time a Ferrari driver has been fastest in Q1 since the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix. Leclerc went on to qualify in fifth place – the best qualifying result for a Ferrari driver at Zandvoort since Patrick Tambay’s second place at the 1983 Dutch Grand Prix. On his 50th race start with Ferrari, Leclerc finished the race in fifth place. He finished where he started for the fourth time this year.
2021 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc finished the Italian Grand Prix in fourth place – his best result since his British Grand Prix podium. This was only the second time he has scored points at Monza. The other time he finished in the points at the circuit was with his 2019 win.
2021 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc, who carried a grid penalty for this race, qualified in fifteenth place. It was the third time in 2021 that he did not reach Q3. Leclerc’s fifteenth place in the race sees him lose his 100% points finishing record at the Russian Grand Prix. His previous worst result here was seventh place, recorded in 2018.
2021 TURKISH GRAND PRIX
For the second year in a row, Charles Leclerc narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the Turkish Grand Prix. While the Ferrari driver finished 1.898 seconds away from third place in 2020, he was 4.073 seconds away from a podium result in 2021.
2021 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc finished in fourth place for the third time in the last four races. Leclerc also finished fourth at the last United States Grand Prix.
2021 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc finished fifth, becoming the first driver to start eighth at the Mexican Grand Prix and finish the race since 2016. Fifth is the best result for the driver starting from this grid slot in Mexico since Riccardo Patrese finished third in 1987.
2021 SAO PAULO GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc came home in fifth place, recording his fourth consecutive top five result. It’s the first time that Leclerc has finished in the top five at four or more consecutive races since between the 2019 Hungarian and Russian Grands Prix – a streak which included his two career victories to date.
2021 QATAR GRAND PRIX
For the first time since the Russian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc failed to reach Q3. He qualified in thirteenth place – his second worst qualifying result of the season to date. He went on to finish the race in eighth place, making it the first time he’s finished outside of the top five since the Russian Grand Prix.
2021 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX
With seventh place, Charles Leclerc recorded his sixth consecutive top eight result. It equals his longest streak of top eight results in 2020, which he recorded between the Tuscan and Turkish Grands Prix.
2021 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc finished in tenth place for the first time since the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. It’s his worst result since finishing fifteenth in Russia. This was the first time that Leclerc has been out-qualified by a team-mate at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
