2021 Dutch GP: Milestones and Records to Break

At the first Dutch Grand Prix in 36 years, Hamilton could win at a 30th different circuit and Verstappen could score points for the 100th time. Here are the milestones and records which could be broken at the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix!

THE MILESTONES

This will be the 1,048th World Championship Formula 1 race. The last race held at Zandvoort was race number 415.

It has been 36 years since Formula 1 last visited the Netherlands, and this will be the 35th Dutch Grand Prix since the event was first held back in 1948. It will be the 31st Dutch Grand Prix to count towards the F1 Drivers’ Championship.

At a gap of 36 years, Zandvoort will set a new record for the longest gap between two World Championship Grands Prix at a single circuit – though Indianapolis Motor Speedway will continue to hold the record for longest gap between two World Championship events. There was a forty year gap between the 1960 Indianapolis 500 and the 2000 United States Grand Prix.

The 29th lap of the race will be the 2,400th racing lap to have taken place at Zandvoort in F1 history.

This will be the third race to be held on 5th September. It’s the first race to be held on this date since the 1971 Italian Grand Prix.

With both Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi on the grid, the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix will be the 350th race to feature at least one Canadian driver. Canada is the sixteenth nation to reach that milestone.

The 2021 Dutch Grand Prix will mark Charles Leclerc’s 50th race start with Ferrari.

THE RECORDS TO BREAK

Whoever wins the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix will become the twentieth driver to have won an F1 race at Zandvoort. Should Lewis Hamilton be victorious, he would become the first driver to have won at thirty different circuits during his Formula 1 career.

A victory for Lewis Hamilton at the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix would mark his 100th win in Formula 1, making him the first driver to reach the milestone.

Max Verstappen recorded his sixteenth Grand Prix win at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Another win this weekend would see him overtake Stirling Moss as the driver with the most wins to not win the title. Moss won sixteen Grands Prix in his World Championship career. Read more: Most F1 Wins Without Winning the Title.

If he wins the race, Lewis Hamilton would become the first driver to have scored 4,000 points in his Formula 1 career.

Should Max Verstappen score points at the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix, he would be the seventeenth driver to have scored points in 100 Grands Prix.

Ferrari could extend their record of most Dutch Grand Prix wins to nine this weekend, while Mercedes or Williams could become the seventh team to have taken multiple Zandvoort wins. McLaren are the only other current team who have previously won here.

Whoever takes pole this weekend will be the 21st different driver to have taken pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix.

Should Ferrari take pole this weekend, they will equal Lotus’ record tally of eight poles at Zandvoort. Ferrari engines are also currently equal with Ford Cosworth to have powered the most poles at the track.

The ten drivers who score this weekend will join Alberto Ascari, Giuseppe Farina, Ludovico Scarfiotti, Mauro Baldi, Wolfgang von Trips, José Froilán González, Peter Revson and Toulo de Graffenried as drivers to have scored on every appearance at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Owing to the change in the points-scoring system since F1 last visited, whoever wins this weekend will become the driver to have scored the fifth-most points at Zandvoort.

If Ferrari score nine points this weekend, they will become the first team to have scored 200 points at the Dutch Grand Prix.
