Your 2020 Tuscan GP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. WILL MERCEDES LOCK OUT THE FRONT ROW?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

For a seventh consecutive race, Mercedes locked out the front row. Lewis Hamilton lined up on pole, with Valtteri Bottas alongside him having qualified just 0.059 seconds slower. Max Verstappen was Mercedes’ nearest challenger, qualifying 0.365 seconds slower than Hamilton.

2. HOW MANY SAFETY CAR PERIODS WILL THERE BE?

YOUR PREDICTION: 1

CORRECT ANSWER: 3 or more

An incident-strewn Tuscan Grand Prix saw the Safety Car deployed no fewer than three times – first for a first lap incident, then for a crash on the straight at the restart and finally for Lance Stroll’s crash. The last two of those incidents resulted in Red Flags.

3. WHERE WILL PIERRE GASLY FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 7TH OR 8TH

CORRECT ANSWER: 11TH OR LOWER

Pierre Gasly won the Italian Grand Prix, but had no such luck at the Tuscan Grand Prix. He was eliminated in Q1, qualifying in sixteenth. From there he crashed out on the first lap, being squeezed between two cars in the opening corners.

4. WHERE WILL THE TOP FERRARI-POWERED CAR FINISH?

YOUR PREDICTION: 9th or 10th

CORRECT ANSWER: 6th, 7th or 8th

It was another underwhelming day for the Ferrari-powered cars. The four cars equipped with Ferrari engines which reached the chequered flag finished within the bottom five places. The best finisher was Kimi Raikkonen in eighth, though he was given a five second penalty for a pit lane entry infringement which promoted Charles Leclerc into eighth.

5. WILL ALFA ROMEO REACH Q2?

YOUR PREDICTION: NO

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

For only the third time this year, an Alfa Romeo driver appeared in Q2. For the third time, that driver was Kimi Raikkonen, who qualified in thirteenth – his best Saturday result of the season so far.
