2020 Portuguese GP: A Statistic For Every Driver

Hamilton joins an elite group of eight, Sainz leads multiple laps for the first time and Perez’s impressive points run continues. Here’s a statistic from each driver’s 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix weekend!

?? Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton won the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix and recorded his 92nd victory, breaking Michael Schumacher’s former record of 91 Grand Prix wins. Hamilton becomes the eighth different driver to have held the outright record for all-time wins. He is the second driver to set a new record for most F1 wins in Portugal; Alain Prost took a then record-breaking 28th win at the 1987 Portuguese Grand Prix.

?? Valtteri Bottas

With second place at the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas recorded his 54th podium and equalled Niki Lauda’s career tally of top three finishes. He now sits thirteenth in the all-time list of most podiums, alongside the Austrian. Bottas is the second Finnish driver to record a podium finish at the Portuguese Grand Prix. The only other top three finish for a Finn in the country was for Mika Hakkinen, who finished third in 1994.

?? Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel qualified in fifteenth place for the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix. For the first time in his career, Vettel has failed to reach Q3 at eight consecutive races. It’s also the first time that a Ferrari driver has failed to reach Q3 at eight consecutive races since the knockout system was introduced in 2006. In the race, Vettel finished the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix in tenth place, scoring for the first time since the Tuscan Grand Prix. In the last six races, Vettel has scored two points.

?? Charles Leclerc

After equalling his best qualifying result of the season, Charles Leclerc finished fourth in the Portuguese Grand Prix, recording his best result since also finishing fourth in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

?? Max Verstappen

In the last fifteen races, Max Verstappen has recorded three retirements. He has finished on the podium at every other race. The 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix marked Verstappen’s 40th podium finish, making him only the 23rd driver to reach that milestone. Verstappen became the first Dutch driver to finish on the podium at the Portuguese Grand Prix, making the Netherlands the fourteenth nation to have finished in the top three at the event.

?? Alex Albon

Alex Albon finished the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix in twelfth place. Having retired from the Eifel Grand Prix, this marks the first time that Albon has failed to score at two consecutive races during his time at Red Bull.

?? Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz led four of the opening five laps of the Portuguese Grand Prix. It’s the first time that the Spaniard has led multiple laps of a race, having previously led a single lap at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix.

?? Lando Norris

Finishing the Portuguese Grand Prix in thirteenth place, Lando Norris failed to score for a third consecutive race. This is only the second time in his career that Norris has failed to pick up points at three successive events. The other time it happened was at the 2019 Spanish, Monaco and Canadian Grands Prix.

?? Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo reached Q3 at the Portuguese Grand Prix but failed to set a lap time due to damaging his rear wing at the end of Q2. As a result, he qualified in tenth place, marking the first time he has qualified outside of the top eight since the Spanish Grand Prix.

?? Esteban Ocon

Esteban Ocon finished the Portuguese Grand Prix one place ahead of his team-mate in eighth place. It’s only the second time this year that Ocon has finished ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in a race in which both Renault drivers reached the chequered flag.

?? Sergio Perez

Despite being last after the opening lap, Sergio Perez finished the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix in seventh place. He maintains his record of finishing in the points in every race which he has started this season. Aside from his DNF at the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix, Perez has scored in every race in which he has competed since the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix.

?? Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll was the only retirement from the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix. His third place at the Italian Grand Prix remains the last time he finished a race.

?? Daniil Kvyat

Daniil Kvyat leads the way for most Q2 exits in 2020, with his thirteenth place in qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix marking his tenth Q2 exit of the season. He has qualified in either eleventh, twelfth or thirteenth in every race since the Spanish Grand Prix. The Russian finished the race in nineteenth position; a position in which he has never previously finished.

?? Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly finished the race in fifth place, making this the ninth consecutive race in which AlphaTauri have scored points. That extends the team’s best streak of points scoring races in their entire history. Gasly has scored in all but one of those nine races.

?? Kimi Raikkonen

After making his way up to an impressive sixth place in the opening laps, Kimi Raikkonen finished the Portuguese Grand Prix in eleventh position. Raikkonen qualified sixteenth and gained five places from his starting slot. This is the third consecutive race in which the Finn has gained five or more positions. The British Grand Prix, where he lost one place, remains the only time that Raikkonen has finished a race in a worse position than where he started in 2020.

?? Antonio Giovinazzi

Antonio Giovinazzi qualified seventeenth for the third time in the last four races. With his eleventh Q1 exit of 2020 at the Portuguese Grand Prix, he equals Nicholas Latifi as the driver to have recorded the most Q1 exits so far this season.

?? Romain Grosjean

For the second time in the last three races, Romain Grosjean finished the Portuguese Grand Prix in seventeenth place. In the last six events, there have been three occasions where seventeen or more drivers finished. On all of those occasions, a Haas driver has finished seventeenth.

?? Kevin Magnussen

Qualifying in nineteenth place for the Portuguese Grand Prix, Kevin Magnussen recorded the ninth back row qualification of his F1 career. He went on to finish the race in sixteenth place. It’s the first time he’s finished sixteenth since the 2018 Italian Grand Prix.

?? George Russell

George Russell out-qualified his team-mate for a 33rd consecutive race at the Portuguese Grand Prix and reached Q2 for the seventh time in his career. He ran inside the top ten for a number of laps during the race, but failed to score. He finished fourteenth, equalling his third-best result of the year.

?? Nicholas Latifi

Nicholas Latifi qualified last for the fourth time in his career. His twentieth position in qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix means that a Williams driver has been eliminated in Q1 at all but one of the last forty races. The exception was the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix, where both Latifi and Russell reached Q2.
