Your 2019 #ItalianGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2019 Italian Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. Which Ferrari driver will score the best result?

YOUR PREDICTION: CHARLES LECLERC

CORRECT ANSWER: CHARLES LECLERC

After taking pole position, Charles Leclerc went on to take victory in the Italian Grand Prix, delighting the tifosi with Ferrari’s first home win since 2010. After spinning and picking up a penalty for rejoining the track in an unsafe manner, Sebastian Vettel finished only thirteenth.

2. WILL F1’S FASTEST LAP RECORD BE BEATEN?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: NO

68% of you thought the record for the fastest lap in F1 history would be beaten this weekend, and it could have been – if not for the farcical end to qualifying. Of the nine drivers in the queue, only Carlos Sainz crossed the line before the chequered flag fell. In the end, it was Charles Leclerc who took pole with a 1:19.307, two tenths down on Kimi Raikkonen’s pole time from last year. If you add the three best sector times from qualifying together, the pace was there to break the record. Leclerc first sector, Valtteri Bottas’ second sector and Lewis Hamilton’s final sector equalled a time of 1:18.885.

3. Which Red Bull driver will score more points?

YOUR PREDICTION: MAX VERSTAPPEN

CORRECT ANSWER: ALEX ALBON

Despite already knowing Max Verstappen would be starting from the back of the grid, 62% of you still backed him to finish in a better position than Alex Albon. But first lap contact halted the Dutchman’s charge. In the end, he still picked up points with an eighth place finish, but Albon finished ahead in sixth position!

4. How many points will McLaren score?

YOUR PREDICTION: 6-10 POINTS

CORRECT ANSWER: 1-5 POINTS

Lando Norris scored McLaren’s first point at McLaren since 2014. They could have scored more, if not for a pit stop error which forced Carlos Sainz into retirement. The team picked up a fine for the incident.

5. How many teams will reach Q3?

YOUR PREDICTION: 6

CORRECT ANSWER: 7

Seven different teams appeared in Q3 at the 2019 Italian Grand Prix. Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault got both cars through to Q3. It was the first time both Renaults have qualified in the top ten at Monza since 2011. Red Bull, McLaren, Racing Point and Alfa Romeo each managed to get one car into Q3. Toro Rosso and Williams were the only teams to not appear in the top ten.
