2019 Singapore GP: Milestones and Records to Beat

Leclerc could join an elite club, Raikkonen equals Schumacher’s appearance tally and Hamilton and Vettel battle it out to become Marina Bay’s most successful driver. Here are the records which are up for grabs over the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix weekend!

The Numbers and Milestones:

This will be the 1012th F1 Grand Prix. It’ll be the 20th Singapore Grand Prix since the event was first held in 1966, and the 12th Singapore Grand Prix to have been a round of the F1 championship. It’ll also be the 12th F1 race held at the Marina Bay Circuit.

The 35th lap of the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix will be the 700th racing lap of the Marina Bay Circuit since F1 first visited the track in 2008.

Kimi Raikkonen will equal Michael Schumacher’s tally of Grand Prix starts this weekend.

The Singapore Grand Prix will be the 800th race to feature an Italian driver.

The Records to Beat:

If Charles Leclerc wins, he’ll become only the third driver in Formula 1 to have taken all three of his first wins at consecutive wins. Damon Hill and Mika Hakkinen are the other drivers who’ve achieved that feat.

Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are currently tied for the most wins at the Singapore Grand Prix with four apiece. Should one of them win this weekend, they’ll set a new outright record for most wins at the event. The same statistic is true of pole positions at the circuit.

If anyone other than Lewis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel wins, they’ll be the fifth different driver to have taken victory at the Marina Bay Circuit. If anyone other than those two takes pole position this weekend, they’ll be the sixth different driver to have done so at the track.

Lewis Hamilton stands on the brink of a huge milestone. He has led 141 Grands Prix so far in his career. Michael Schumacher is the current record holder for most Grands Prix led, having led 142 in his career. Therefore, should Hamilton lead a single lap of the Singapore Grand Prix, he’ll become the driver to have led the equal-most Grands Prix in Formula 1 history.

If Red Bull win the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix, they’ll equal Mercedes as the most successful constructor at the track. Mercedes have taken four victories here and could extend that record with a win this weekend.

A win for a Renault-powered car would see the engine manufacturer equal Mercedes as the most successful engine at the track. Mercedes-power could extend the record of wins to six this weekend.

Mercedes could equal Ferrari as the most successful team in Singapore qualifying this weekend, while Ferrari themselves could extend the record. Ferrari have four poles here so far compared to Mercedes’ three.

Lewis Hamilton or Daniel Ricciardo could become the first driver to have set the fastest lap at the Singapore Grand Prix three times this weekend, while Kimi Raikkonen, Nico Hulkenberg, Sebastian Vettel and Kevin Magnussen could each set the fastest lap of the Singapore Grand Prix for a record-equalling second time.

Sebastian Vettel could extend the record of most Singapore Grand Prix podium finishes to eight this weekend, while Lewis Hamilton could equal the Ferrari driver’s current record tally.

A win for Daniel Ricciardo would see him become the fourth driver to have scored 100 points at the Singapore Grand Prix.

If Ferrari score nine points, they’ll become the third team – after Red Bull and Mercedes – to have scored 200 points at the Marina Bay Circuit.

Sebastian Vettel could set a new record for most laps led of the Singapore Grand Prix, while Lewis Hamilton could extend the record. Hamilton has led 242 laps here compared to Vettel’s 221. If Vettel leads 22 more laps of the race than Hamilton he’ll take the record. They are the only drivers to have led more than 100 laps here – that stat will remain true even after this weekend.

If Lewis Hamilton takes pole this weekend he’ll become the first F1 driver to have taken back-to-back poles at the Singapore Grand Prix.

If Lewis Hamilton wins the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix, he’ll become only the second driver to have taken three consecutive victories at the event. Sebastian Vettel is the only other driver to have won three races in a row here, having done so in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Every Singapore Grand Prix held as a round of the F1 championship has featured a Safety Car period. If that continues this weekend, it’ll be the twelfth consecutive time the Safety Car has made an appearance at the event.

Should Lewis Hamilton, Nico Hulkenberg or Romain Grosjean fail to finish the race, it’ll be a record breaking fourth time which a driver has failed to finish the Singapore Grand Prix. Hamilton and Hulkenberg could both equal Grosjean’s total tally of non-finishes should they retire this weekend. Grosjean has recorded a DNS in addition to his three DNFs here.

If he finishes in the top ten, Sebastian Vettel will extend the record for most points-scoring Singapore Grand Prix appearances to eleven.
