Your 2018 #ChineseGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2018 Chinese Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. Which team will score the most points?

YOUR PREDICTION: MERCEDES

CORRECT ANSWER: RED BULL

With Daniel Ricciardo’s impressive win, it was Red Bull who scored the most points in China. They scored 35 points, but could have had more if not for Max Verstappen’s post-race time penalty. Mercedes were second best and scored 30 points, while Ferrari scored 19. Red Bull have moved up to third in the championship thanks to their Shanghai points haul, while Mercedes lead the way by one point from Ferrari.

2. Which Haas driver will perform better?

YOUR PREDICTION: MAGNUSSEN IN QUALIFYING AND THE RACE

CORRECT ANSWER: GROSJEAN IN QUALIFYING, MAGNUSSEN IN THE RACE

42% of you predicted Kevin Magnussen would out-perform Romain Grosjean throughout the weekend. It was actually Grosjean who beat the Danish driver on Saturday, while Kevin pulled it back on Sunday. He scored a point with a tenth place finish, while Grosjean made a late pit-stop and finished down in seventeenth.

3. Will there be a Safety Car period?

YOUR PREDICTION: YES

CORRECT ANSWER: YES

80% of you correctly predicted that there would be a Safety Car period during the Chinese Grand Prix. The Safety Car was called out after Pierre Gasly collided with his team-mate Brendon Hartley, leaving debris strewn across the track at the final hairpin. The stint behind the Safety Car shaped the remainder of the race, as Red Bull pitted for fresh tyres, aiding Daniel Ricciardo to his first victory of the season.

4. Which of the following drivers will finish highest?

YOUR PREDICTION: CARLOS SAINZ

CORRECT ANSWER: CARLOS SAINZ

As 51% of you predicted, Carlos Sainz finished best of this bunch. Sainz scored two points for Renault in ninth. Esteban Ocon finished just outside of the points in eleventh, while Pierre Gasly and Marcus Ericsson had less successful showings than they did in Bahrain. Gasly finished eighteenth, while Ericsson came home in sixteenth.

5. How will Red Bull fare in China?

YOUR PREDICTION: BOTH CARS WILL FINISH

CORRECT ANSWER: BOTH CARS WILL FINISH

65% of you predicted that both Red Bull drivers would see the chequered flag on Sunday. While Max Verstappen’s race wasn’t without controversy, Daniel Ricciardo cruised to victory. The Chinese Grand Prix was Red Bull’s best race of the season so far. Can they keep the momentum going heading into the Azerbaijan Grand Prix?
