Your 2020 #HungarianGP Predictions: The Results

Before the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend began, I posted five prediction polls on the Lights Out twitter account. How many of the questions did you get right? Find out below!

1. Which team will win?

YOUR PREDICTION: Mercedes

CORRECT ANSWER: Mercedes

For a third weekend in a row, Mercedes emerged victorious. Lewis Hamilton took  a record-breaking eighth victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with team-mate Bottas finishing third. Hamilton’s win never looked in doubt, with his closest rival Max Verstappen finishing eight seconds behind.

2. Will anyone other than Mercedes and Red Bull finish on the podium?

YOUR PREDICTION: No

CORRECT ANSWER: No

59.3% of you thought the three podium positions would be dominated by Mercedes and Red Bull. That looked unlikely prior to the race, with Max Verstappen having crashed on his way to the grid and Alex Albon starting down in thirteenth. Despite his pre-race scare, Verstappen managed to end up as runner-up to Lewis Hamilton having started seventh on the grid. With Valtteri Bottas finishing third, the podium places were indeed locked out by Mercedes and Red Bull.

3. How many points will Racing Point score?

YOUR PREDICTION: 6-10 points

CORRECT ANSWER: 11 or more points

Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez lined up third and fourth on the grid for the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix. Stroll finished fourth, while Perez finished seventh. Stroll’s fourth place was the Silverstone-based team’s best result at the Hungarian Grand Prix since Heinz-Harald Frentzen finished fourth for Jordan in 1999, while Perez became the first driver to score 600 points without winning a race.

4. Who will be third in the championship?

YOUR PREDICTION: Max Verstappen

CORRECT ANSWER: Max Verstappen

With his second place finish, Max Verstappen moved up to third in the Drivers’ Championship, just as 58% of you predicted. Lando Norris had been third in the standings prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix, but he dropped to fourth having failed to score this weekend.

5. What will the pole margin be?

YOUR PREDICTION: 0.101-0.200 seconds

CORRECT ANSWER: 0.101-0.200 seconds

Lewis Hamilton took pole position for the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix by 0.107 seconds. It was the fourth time in Formula 1 history that pole had been decided by 0.107 seconds – and the second time it has happened at the Hungaroring. Mika Hakkinen took pole for the 1999 Hungarian Grand Prix by 0.107 seconds.
