Mercedes unveil new 2020 livery

Mercedes have unveiled the livery which will appear on their 2020 challenger, the W11, in a special event at the Royal Automobile Club.

2020 sees INEOS become Mercedes’ Official Principal Partner and the team have a refreshed livery with red INEOS branding. The livery maintains the familiar silver and turquoise colours which have appeared on the car since the team rejoined the sport back in 2010.

Mercedes have not failed to win the title since the dawn of Formula 1’s V6 hybrid era in 2014. During that time, Lewis Hamilton has won the Drivers’ Championship five times with the team, while Nico Rosberg was victorious in 2016.

Hamilton will partner Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes in 2020 for a fourth consecutive season. Last year, the pair began the season with an unprecedented five consecutive 1-2 finishes and ultimately became the first time to secure six consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles, with Hamilton ending the year 87 points ahead of Bottas. There is plenty of speculation on Mercedes’ future in the sport as a works team ahead of the 2020 season; though their new five-year partnership with INEOS appears to be the first hint of a longer term commitment. The German manufacturer’s future as an engine supplier is confirmed until at least 2025, as per an engine deal with Williams. McLaren will also take Mercedes’ engines from 2021 onwards. There is intrigue over Mercedes’ potential 2021 driver line-up, with both Hamilton and Bottas out of contract at the end of this season.
