Driver Form: Singapore

Five drivers have a 100% Singapore Grand Prix finish record, two drivers have a 100% Q3 record and Sergio Perez’s race record here is perhaps the most impressive. Find out why as we take a look through the statistics of each driver’s history at the Marina Bay Circuit!

?? Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton has appeared in all ten of the Singapore Grands Prix held so far. From those ten, he’s completed seven of them, never finishing lower than fifth. His three DNFs at the Marina Bay Circuit came in 2010, 2012 and 2015, the latter two being due to mechanical issues and the former as a result of a coming together with Mark Webber. Hamilton has won here three times and has appeared on the podium five times – including twice in the past two years. He’s taken pole here three times and started from the front row four times. The Brit is one of only two current drivers with a 100% Q3 record at the track and has beaten his team-mate in qualifying seven times here. Hamilton hasn’t lost a position in a Singapore Grand Prix since 2011.

?? Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas has only scored points twice in the Singapore Grand Prix. He took fifth place in 2015 and a podium finish last season. Bottas has never qualified higher than sixth here, but has reached Q3 in three of his five appearances. He’s never been eliminated in Q1 at this track. 2014 is the only year where the Finn has lost a position on his starting place at the track, aside from his DNF in 2016. Bottas has been beaten by his team-mate twice in Qualifying in Singapore.

?? Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel has taken the most points of any driver at this track – 54 more than Lewis Hamilton. The Singapore specialist has more poles, more wins and more podiums at the Marina Bay Circuit than any other driver. Until last season, the German held a 100% finish record at the track, having never finished below fifth. He’s qualified on pole here in every alternate year since 2011, and has had six front row starts. His worst qualifying performance here came in 2016, when suspension issues left him unable to set a time – but even that couldn’t stop him from fighting back to fifth on the Sunday. Vettel has only been beaten in qualifying by a team-mate twice at this track, in the aforementioned 2016 event and by Daniel Ricciardo in 2014. Vettel has never lost a position in all of the Singapore Grands Prix he’s finished, except the 2009 race where he lost two places on his starting slot.

?? Kimi Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen has scored two podium finishes at the Singapore Grand Prix, with third places in 2013 and 2015. Of the eight races he’s competed in at the track, he’s finished six, scored points in five and retired from two. The Finn has never qualified higher than third here, which he did in 2008 and 2015. 2009 and 2016 are the only seasons where he beat his team-mate in qualifying at the track, the latter due to a mechanical issue on the other car. Raikkonen is yet to fail to reach Q3 at the Marina Bay Circuit during his second spell at Ferrari, and has never been eliminated in Q1. He’s only lost a position on his starting slot once here, in 2014 when he lost one place during the race.

?? Daniel Ricciardo

Last season, for the first time in his career, Daniel Ricciardo was out-qualified by a team-mate at the Singapore Grand Prix. Ricciardo has finished as runner-up in all of the last three seasons at the Marina Bay Circuit, and finished on the final step of the podium in 2014. A DNF in 2013 and a nineteenth place finish in his maiden season are the only times where Ricciardo has failed to score at this track. The Australian has started in the top three in all of the last four seasons and has reached Q3 in every year since 2013. He’s never lost a position on his starting place in all of the six races he’s completed in Singapore.

?? Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen’s Singapore Grand Prix was over at the first turn last year as he became the filling of a Ferrari sandwich. Before that, Verstappen had never finished lower than eighth here, recording a best finish of sixth in 2016. He is the only current driver other than Lewis Hamilton to have a 100% Q3 record at the track, with a best Saturday result of second in 2017. Verstappen is yet to gain a position on his starting place in a Grand Prix at this track.

?? Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez is the driver with the longest current streak of finishes at the Singapore Grand Prix, having reached the end of all of the last seven events. Impressively, Perez has a 100% finish and a 100% points record at the track, having never finished lower than tenth here. He recorded his best result here last season, finishing fifth. Despite scoring points at every attempt, Perez has never started inside the top ten in Singapore, and has only reached Q3 once – in 2016. The Mexican driver has gained at least six positions in all of the last five races here.

?? Esteban Ocon

From his two appearances at the track, Esteban Ocon has scored points in Singapore once – last season, when he finished in tenth place. He’s never qualified higher than fourteenth here, and has been beaten by his team-mate in both of his Saturday appearances. Ocon has made places in both Singapore Grands Prix which he has contested in so far, gaining three positions in 2016 and four in 2017.

?? Lance Stroll

Last season, on his only Singapore Grand Prix appearance so far, Lance Stroll brought home four points for Williams by finishing eighth. Despite not beating his team-mate in Qualifying and starting from a lowly eighteenth on the grid, the Canadian made up ten positions over the course of the race.

?? Sergey Sirotkin

Sergey Sirotkin has no past experience at the Marina Bay Circuit.

?? Nico Hulkenberg

Nico Hulkenberg has retired from all three of the last Singapore Grands Prix. Before his run of bad lack, the German had three points finishes at the track, though none higher than ninth position. Hulkenberg has reached Q3 only twice here, in both of the last two seasons. The German’s best qualifying result here came last season, when he set the seventh fastest time. He hasn’t been beaten by a team-mate in Qualifying in Singapore since 2013.

?? Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz has a 100% finish record in Singapore and recorded the best result of his Formula One career here last year with a fourth place finish for Toro Rosso. He’s reached Q3 in both of the last two seasons at the Marina Bay Circuit, lining up a best of sixth on the grid in 2016. He’s also beaten his team-mate in both of the last two Singapore Grand Prix qualifying sessions. Sainz has never finished where he started in Singapore – he gained five places in 2015, lost eight in 2016 and gained six in 2017.

?? Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly has no past racing experience in Singapore.

?? Brendon Hartley

Like his team-mate, Brendon Hartley has no experience at the Marina Bay Circuit.

?? Romain Grosjean

Romain Grosjean is the only driver on the current grid to have recorded a DNS at the Singapore Grand Prix. Grosjean hasn’t had much luck here in the past, with three DNFs and only two points scoring races in seven appearances. His best finish here is seventh, which he achieved in 2012. The Frenchman’s best qualifying at the track was in 2013, when he lined up third on the grid. Since then, he’s only progressed to Q3 once, in 2015. On the plus side, Grosjean has never lost a position in any of the races he’s finished at the Marina Bay Circuit, and has been beaten by a team-mate in Qualifying here only twice in his career – in 2009 and 2016.

?? Kevin Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen has scored a point on two of his three Singapore Grand Prix outings, finishing tenth in both 2014 and 2016. Last season, the Haas driver recorded his first DNF at the track. 2017 was also the first time Magnussen has been beaten by a team-mate in qualifying at the circuit. The Dane has never been eliminated in Q2 here, having reached Q3 in 2014 and being eliminated in Q1 in both of the last two seasons.

?? Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso controversially won Formula One’s first ever night race at this circuit in 2008. Since then, he had a fairer win in 2010 and three further podium appearances – the most recent of which came in 2013. Since re-joining McLaren, the Spaniard has had one seventh place finish and two DNFs. Alonso has had one pole position here, in 2010, and has reached Q3 in both of the last two Singapore Grand Prix weekends. He’s only ever been beaten by a team-mate in Qualifying once in Singapore – Felipe Massa got the better of him in 2013. In the races he’s finished, Alonso has never lost a position on his starting place at this track.

?? Stoffel Vandoorne

Stoffel Vandoorne secured six points for McLaren in his only Singapore Grand Prix appearance so far in 2017. After reaching Q3, Vandoorne gained two places in the Grand Prix to finish seventh.

?? Marcus Ericsson

Marcus Ericsson is yet to score a point at the Singapore Grand Prix. His best finish here is eleventh, which he achieved in 2015, while his best qualifying performance is sixteenth, which he achieved in 2016. Ericsson has beaten a team-mate in qualifying here only once, in 2016, which was the same season in which he made his only Q2 appearance at the track.
