LAP LENGTH 5.451km

Fast Facts:

  • The track was built by 3,000 engineers, who helped to transform swampland into a racing circuit over an 18 month period.
  • Designed by Hermann Tilke, the track resembles the Chinese character shang, meaning ‘ascend’.
  • As it is built on marshland, the track is held in place by 40,000 stone pillars.
  • In recent years, because of the ground the track is built on, some turns- 1, 8 and 14- have sunk. There was a full inspection of the issue before the Grand Prix in 2011.
